Love watching this guy at work.
Three times OPBF champ, and a technician with 30 wins to his name, Mark John Yap is without doubt the most experienced boxer amongst an outstanding card at the BATTLEFIELD next month.
It is a rare treat to see Yap perform on home soil, as he has fought abroad in places like Japan, USA and Dubai in recent years. He made a quick trip home in 2019, and was rewarded with an impressive Knockout win in front of adoring CDO fans. He was not sighted in the Philippines again till August of this year, when he faced the mercurial Charly Suarez in a WBA title bout. Despite a points loss, it was a near vintage Yap that impressed onlookers and Suarez himself :
" Mark fought a very clever fight. He reads the punches very well, and he shows his experience with lots of variety. He is very tough and experienced. "
Yap never has easy opponents, and in his inimitable style, takes on Papuan Warrior Junior Raka in his upcoming bout.
Raka was a feisty amateur before turning pro, and despite limited opportunities, has shown great signs. He scored two great wins over quality Pinoy Allan Vallespin, and endured a points loss over the top class Roldan Aldea in a WBA title match.
It is also well known that the "PNG PRODIGY " has 7 additional fights not listed in BoxRec, and is unbeaten with 6 knockouts. BOOM! This pride of Papua New Guinea has got guns in both hands!
This will be a colossal contest, and like any fight of Mark John Yap, we would not expect anything less!
BATTLEFIELD UKC TIGER 2O22
Elorde Sports Centre Paranaque Manila Sunday October 23rd
One of Manila's hottest prospects has just signed up to BATTLEFIELD UKC Tiger 2O22!Antonio Uy was an amateur standout before going pro earlier this year. This Elorde trained fighter hasn't put a foot wrong since, going 2 and 0, and both by way of stoppage. The execution and confidence displayed in his wins was that of a much more experienced boxer, and beckons bigger challenges in his future.
The great news is that this quicksilver attacking weapon known as "Crossman" will step into the BATTLEFIELD on October 23rd.Antonio Uy is definitely one of the most exciting prospects in the Philippines right now, and we will be looking to match him with a more seasoned opponent to test his mettle.Get to Parañaque next month and watch the Crossman do his thing. We guarantee that you will be quite amazed at the speed, accuracy, and power, that this kid possesses.Updates on an opponent for Antonio Uy, and any other new troops destined for the BATTLEFIELD, coming soon !
Charly Suarez and Carlo Magali are both known for blazing hands and massive punch counts, so expect a fistic smorgasbord of full on attack when these two fighters meet on October 23rd.
Magali makes his eagerly awaited return after an unfortunate run of fight cancelations.
When we last saw "The Ferocious", he was simply outstanding, besting a very good young fighter by the name of Al Toyogan (who has looked unbeatable since!)
It also should be remembered that just prior to his Toyogan match, Carlo Magali was slated to fight unbeaten Miguel Berchelt for the world title, a fight that was widely acknowledged as the toughest test yet encountered for the formidable title holder.
Carlo Magali is the current Philippines national champion, and in true champion spirit, will put that title on the line when he faces Suarez. Likewise, the King's Warrior will offer up his WBA belt for the October 23rd match at Elorde Sports Centre Paranaque.
The unbeaten Suarez has been in outstanding touch, and is certainly lucky to have a swathe of quality opponents and sparring partners around his weight class.
His most recent win against a very savvy Mark John Yap will give you a taste of what to expect this October.
The King's Warrior is on a short turn around, and will face up to Philippines' national champ Carlo Magali in Parañaque on October 23.Suarez was originally slated to fight a foreign opponent in Danang, but the October 29 date made a planned December match unworkable.
The VSP boxer is enthusiastic about the task ahead :"Yes, we had planned to fight India's number one boxer in Danang, but the date was a little too late for our schedule. We are very fortunate to be able to get to match a top professional like Carlo, he has been one of the big names in boxing for many years. I like the challenge because Carlo Magali always brings a great fight!"Magali was recently preparing for a big match in South Africa that was canceled. The Bohol bred fighter quickly jumped at the opportunity to test himself with the WBA champion Suarez. Magali is the current national champion, and when last in the ring, defeated the highly promising Al Toyogan.
The match between Charly Suarez and Carlo Magali will be the main event of another big card at Elorde Sports Centre on Sunday October 23rd. The combatants will be competing for WBA Asia and RP title honours in what will be an action packed bout.
"That's Amore" !! Two WBA Asia title holders in the house at ANNIHILATION TIGER UKC in Parañaque, the most recently crowned being Linn Sandstrom.
The Swedish fighter, trained in Australia by Tony Del Vecchio, scored a solid win to grab the belt from a Thai opponent that came to survive. It was Sandstrom's 6th win as a pro, and signaled better things to come.
And who better to compare notes with than the Wonder Boy himself, Carl Jammes Martin, who recently successfully defended the very same title!
RoyRoy Sumugat and Jufel Salina turned on a battle for the ages in Parañaque on Sunday.
Jufel Salina is a top prospect who just impresses and improves with each bout, and his clash with "d'Hammer" was quality, high workrate, non stop action from the opening bell. The performance of Salina was so good in fact, it would have been no surprise if the referee had raised his hand after the final bell sounded.
Roy Sumugat had a splendid 2021, but was unfortunately stopped in his last match of the year, and his clash with Salina marked his long-awaited ring return. He weathered some great shots from Salina, but never looked vulnerable, and his accuracy in returning with meaningful work of his own clearly swayed the judges.
RoyRoy looked really composed and balanced against a "come to win" opponent, and this strong southpaw delivered quality responses every time he was asked a serious question.
This match reinforced the rise in calibre of Jufel Salina, and even more so, the level of performance that RoyRoy can produce under pressure.
Great first up showing from D’Hammer !
Charly Suarez vs Mark John Yap showcases exciting high level boxing! Thank you Angela Yambao for incredible photos!
Mark John Yap and Charly Suarez stole the show with top echelon performances in the WBA Asia title match in Parañaque yesterday. Yap looked in outstanding shape at the weigh-in, and that aesthetic translated to a phenomenal ring performance.
VSP are a huge fan of the CDO boxer, but it must be said, he turned on what was likely a career best display against a career best opponent.
Yap trained in the altitude of Baguio for yesterday's battle, and the strength and endurance gained in that camp had him asking questions of champion Suarez right till the end.
"The Journeyman" threw an array of quality punches at the former Olympian, and if you weren't watching closely, take note. Jabs of different speed and trajectory, and by altering his front foot, constantly probing for different angles to find a way in. He threw lead hooks, high and low, often forcing Suarez onto the back foot to cover up. But it was probably the combinations he created off lead uppercuts that were his most impressive work, and the comments heard from the knowledgeable section of the crowd were unanimous.
"If that's any other guy, other than Suarez, that guy is getting knocked out !"
Mark John Yap put on an awe inspiring display of skills and bravery that won plenty of new fans. He showed the pedigree of a multiple title winner who has fought the very best in his 30 match winning career.
And for Charly Suarez, what can be said?
His sublime shut out offering actually reflects more upon his extraordinary gifts than the effort produced by his rival.
Speed, power, shot selection, distance, and execution were just really pinpoint. His template for war games is just so concise, it will take something extraordinary to halt his rapid advance up the world rankings.
Manny Pacquiao was a phenomenon, an indomitable blend of speed and power, a freak of nature, the likes of which we will likely never see again.
But if there has EVER been a better "boxer" produced in the Philippines than Charly Suarez in the last 50 years, I can hand on heart say, I have never seen it!
WOW!!! It's this weekend!! We are supercharging up the weekend with 20 pro fights and 4 title belts!

Mickey trains in Australia with the famous Bondi Boxing Club, and is a former WBC Australasian champion.
Pengue will be competing in the second session of a 19 bout card this Sunday in Paranaque, and will renew acquaintances with main event fighter Charly Suarez.
The King's Warrior and Pengue were both members of a World Team squad that competed against Vietnam in Hanoi in late 2019.

YAP IS BACK !
The proud son of Cagayan de Oro has been busy in camp, training at altitude in the cool mountains of Baguio, and the reports are, he is in unbelievable shape for his clash with the King's Warrior Charly Suarez.
Mark John Yap has been a force on the international scene for many years now, earning him the moniker "the Journeyman", and his experience at the highest level (30 wins) creates the setting for an intriguing and highly strategic fight with champion Suarez.
Yap is technically so efficient, but be sure, the man has plenty of pop too!
This Journeyman looks to have the style to give Charly Suarez his biggest test on home soil

Juanito Hondante and Malfred Majadas will contest what is destined to be a furious undercard bout at ANNIHILATION UKC next month.
The “Mad Dog” Malfred Majadas is based in Paranaque, and made his pro debut back in March of 2018, when he defeated Rosenido Autida by majority decision. Following on from that success he was able to maintain a busy schedule, which is great for any aspiring young fighter, winning 3 of his 4 bouts to date. This activity was punctuated by the pandemic, and Majadas wasn't seen again till March of this year.
The Mad Dog took on John Jayvee Antonio in Paranaque, and in what was a quality curtain raiser, the clash ended in a Draw. Majadas was the heavier puncher in that bout, landing some thudding shots, but his ring rust and impatience let him down defensively. It's a fair bet that we will see a similar attacking energy from the Mad Dog in his upcoming match, but likely tempered by tidier defense and punch selection.
Juanito Hondante has scored 3 wins to date, and favours trading, which can be a rocks or diamonds strategy. He is vulnerable to counters, but when he gets it right, he has scored knockout wins.
This will be a "blink and you miss it" encounter, and it's impossible not to predict a stoppage !

Hot prospect Antonio Uy makes his second appearance in August when he takes
on debutant Patrick Ballatong. And he is very definitely one to keep an eye on.
And I’ll tell you why!
The “Crossman” made a highly impressive start to his career back in May when he stopped Carlo Diaz, a boxer who appears to have a bright future in his own right.
Anonio Uy is an orthodox boxer from Gingoog City, and has whips of speed and power that complement his excellent boxing skills.
Patrick Ballatong is an experienced exponent of the kick version of the sport, and makes his pure boxing professional debut against a white hot opponent. He also is an orthodox style fighter, and is noted to have extensive sparring against good opponents, and has some very credible amateur performances, that will surely hold him in good stead in his upcoming assignment with Antonio Uy.

Both girls are back for ANNIHILATION UKC, but this time face different opponents. The "Sandstorm" has kept busy, winning bouts in Costa Rica and Australia since her Manila success.
"I love the Philippines, the people are warm like the weather. They always make me feel very welcome, it's almost like I'm an honorary citizen. I'm very excited to be back fighting there again, and really pumped to be on a card with so many great and talented boxers" enthused the Swedish slugger.

It pays to be versatile, and former musician Rica Aquino makes no secret of her love for the sport of boxing. A relatively late starter to tackling the pros, the girl known as "Baby Dynamite" resumes from a three year hiatus when she clashes with debutant Erika Ballen at ANNIHILATION UKC next month.
Aquino, who also has a passionate involvement in boxing media, is a sponge for information, and is working hard on fitness and skills for her first fight back.
And who better to learn from than the exquisite Miss Gretel De Paz!
Gretel is one of the Philippines best performed pros, and was even recently a SEA Games medalist in Muay Thai. De Paz has twice been a member of the World Team against Vietnam, where she joined fighters of the calibre of Mateo Tapia, Charly Suarez, Danilo Creati, Virgel Vitor and Michael Pengue.

Mark Magsayo is striving for the world #1 spot when he battles unbeaten 35 and 0 Rey Vargas in Texas today. Whilst showing flaws in his unblemished career thus far, Magsayo has equally shown an ability to improve with every new challenge, and brings speed and power to the ring that very few can surpass.
But he is not the Philippines lone hope to shine bright on the world stage!
Charly Suarez is without doubt the best and most technical boxer that the Philippines has ever produced (and yes, we are including the phenomenon that is Manny Pacquiao) He has been the most heralded amateur of the last decade, winning three SEA Games gold, and losing controversially at the Olympics to the outstanding Joe Cordina. This British boxer is now IBF World champ, after destroying Japan's Kenichi Ogawa with a stunning knockout.
The King's Warrior's world claims were scalable long ago. It is now almost part of folklore that he faced the fabled Vasyl Lomachenko on 5 days notice and visibly injured, only to make the champion work overtime to earn a victory. The Philippines Suarez was out of the ring for 18 months to rehabilitate from this extraordinary effort.
Charly Suarez has made an immediate impact in the pro ranks, and it could be argued that as successful as he was as an amateur, he's even better suited to the longer round format. The unbeaten fighter has amassed 11 wins in extra quick time, and is looking to a WBA title defense next month against Mark John Yap.
And it is expected that the busy Suarez will have at least two more fights this year.
No rest if you are chasing a world title !
Good luck to Mark Magsayo today, and to Charly Suarez, it won't be long before these world top 10 can't hide from you!

The career traverses 16 years, multiple weight classes and countries, and 32 wins that include many prestigious regional honors such as 3 OPBF straps.

Đây là tấm HCV thứ 2 của đội tuyển boxing Việt Nam ở SEA Games 32.
Iloilo native Arnel Baconaje put on an exemplary boxing display to secure the Philippines super featherweight belt just moments ago.
Baconaje dominated early, but was part on alert by a dangerous and resurgent Jhon Gemino in rounds 4-6. Gemino showed good head movement and landed some quality shots, but Baconaje remained composed.
Arnel Baconaje controlled the action well in the second half, relentlessly jabbing, shoulder rolling defense, and answering Gemino with straight rights and uppercut.
The fitness and resilience of both boxers was excellent, but in the end, it was the well executed game plan of perfect distance and timed counters that proved the deciding factor for the judges.

Joseph Ambo getting support from British champion Amir Khan on the eve of his fight in Dubai tomorrow night.
Ambo takes on the unbeaten 9-0 Cuban star Dayan Gonzalez.
What does Dubai, the Philippines and Cuba have in common ?
Plenty !
Because Joseph Ambo of the Philippines and Dayan Gonzalez of Cuba made weight today for tomorrow night's scheduled battle in Dubai.
The Scorpion looked fantastic at the face off, and even though it is his first hitout at featherweight, the tall boxer looks really suited to 126lb.
And he will need to be !
The Cuban Gonzalez is a real gun, having won all of his 9 fights thus far - 7 by way of stunning knockout !
Jhon Gemino and Arnel Baconaje weighed in and looked in great shape for tomorrow's RP National title bout in Parañaque.
The two boxers will compete at the Okada Casino in Manila on the undercard of John Riel Casimero.
Philippines boxers Jhon Gemino and Arnel Baconaje are regarded as two of the country's best super featherweights in recent years.
Despite the pandemic, both fighters found ways to stay busy and hone their craft, forging paths that lead to the same destination of the Okada Casino in Manila this Saturday.
In a dream match up that has often been debated, yet never seeming likely, these two will finally share the ring and contest the Philippines national title.
Jhon Gemino is a dynamo to say the very least, and prior to the pandemic, could rightfully lay claim to be one of the Philippines most dangerous operators.
Arnel Baconaje has devoted his life to the sport of boxing since showing precocious talent as a kid in Iloilo, and the Elorde Southbox star has always known that title fights were written into his destiny.
"The Silencer" has fallen prey to some very ordinary judges' performances at his last two appearances, but is unperturbed.
This is a white hot match up between two of the Philippines most lethal punchers, but there is a strong suspicion that for Baconaje, he is really coming into his own as a fighter.
But if you are a believer in destiny, then surely Arnel Baconaje will be crowned Philippines KING this Saturday night !!
Quibors Gym prodigy Weljon Mindoro takes a gigantic leap in his fledgling career when he takes on Japan's Takeshi Inoue this Saturday.
The Philippines boxer has not put a foot wrong so far, winning all 10 of his bouts, and incredibly, all by knockout !
But Takeshi Inoue boasts perhaps the best chin in the division, having endured all that unbeaten stars Jaime Munguia and Tim Tszyu could throw ar him, and returning with bombs of his own.
This is very definitely a different task that the Triggerman has faced previously, and he will need to show great boxing skills rather than power to pull the victory this Saturday night at Okada.
Some high level boxing action in Manila this Saturday night.
John Riel Casimero never fails to entertain, but the undercard looks fantastic, and the national title stoush between Arnel Baconaje and Jhon Gemino may even take mantle as the best bout on the show.

Yes - they were that good !!!
Already there has been three cracking fights (we have recently been advised) between The Wolverine JonJon Estrada and Pablito Canada, so good in fact that they will meet again to settle the score.
The first two were atomic bombs, where Canada went all out and looked certain to KO Estrada, only to have the tables turned and end up on the canvas.
The most recent instalment was a strategic yet brutal battle, with the Wolverine punching himself to a standstill and earning a narrow points victory over a physically imposing Canada.
Now it's time for ESTRADA CANADA #4 !!!!This will surely turn into a franchise !
JOSEPH AMBO SATURDAY MAY 13TH DUBAI

Surely a match made in heaven - Arnel Baconaje "The Silencer" has his eyes set on the RP National belt, but who better than "The Disaster" Jhon Gemino to thwart those ambitions ?
Baconaje v Gemino has been added to what is already a huge undercard to the Casimero bout at the Okada Casino on May 13th, and realistically, could really catch fire and become the fight of the night !
Arnel Baconaje has proved to be one of the Philippines classiest boxers in recent years, and is desperate to show that he is is the best super featherweight on the local scene.
The Disaster shapes as a bit of an unknown quantity, as despite three losses at his most recent, they were narrow points decisions against quality international opposition.
Jhon Gemino is world class when he is at best, having previously knocked out unbeaten Americans Toka Clary and Arnold Alejandro. The Parañaque based fighter also gave world champion Emanuel Navarrete a hell fight before being ultimately stopped in a great clash.
And be at his best he will need to be, as Arnel Baconaje is intent on wearing the Philippines national belt next Saturday !
Cagayan de Oro prospect Joseph "the Scorpion" Ambo was recently en route to Manila, with ambitions of hoisting the RP National super bantamweight title this month. But the talented 26 year old fighter has been earmarked for bigger things, and will be headed to Dubai on May 13th instead.
The Scorpion will jump up a weight class, and go to battle with the unbeaten Cuban Dayan Gonzalez (9-0) for the WBC Middle East featherweight title.
Gonzalez has looked electric in his career so far, and showed he is now sitting down on his punches more, securing knockout number 7 when he stopped the Philippines' Alie Laurel in March of this year.
But they breed them tough in Mindanao, and CDO boy Joseph Ambo (12-2) shows an excellent blend of skills, work rate and power to ensure the Cuban will need to be on his best behavior.
This will prove to be an interesting bout, because despite the fact that Joseph Ambo has a massive task on paper, the jump to featherweight gives all appearances that it will really suit him. He also has the style that will give the Cuban champ way more problems than his recent opposition.
Great fight coming to Dubai this May 13th !!
And they don't just happen !! This cracking bout was put together by the renowned matchmaker Mujtaba Kamal. Great work Kamal !!

Iloilo prodigy Arnel Baconaje will make a ring return at the Okada Casino on May 13th on a huge card headlined by John Riel Casimero.
The Elorde boxer has been on the end of tough scoring at his two most recent bouts - an IBF Lightweight clash in Vietnam, and an SD loss to Presco Carcosia in General Santos City.
Despite the quality of opposition, Baconaje appeared to do enough to have his hand raised in both matches, and he certainly showed the attributes of a boxer in hot form.
But that is now all history, and Arnel Baconaje is intent on redemption at Okada on May 13th - so beware a boxer scorned !
You can watch the full fight of Arnel Baconaje in Vietnam against a boxer a massive 6kg above his usual weight class (it's an amazing performance that has already received more than 800k views !!)

Ở trận đấu khác, Song Chan Ho (Hàn Quốc) thắng knock-out Min Saeng Bak (Thái Lan) sau năm hiệp ở hạng Super Lightweight.

Congrats
to VSP boy Nguyễn Văn Hải for a polished performance in Ho Tram against the Chinese power puncher Xiao Tao Su on Saturday.
The win propelled the Hanoi Hitman to Vietnam #1, and jumped him over almost 500 other boxers in world rankings.
The Vietnam fighter has always been one of the best known in the amateur scene, and is now finally getting to make up for lost time in the professional ranks.
Vietnam's best boxer Nguyễn Văn Duong will meet Philippines champion Mark John Yap in an exhibition bout at VSP Gym in HCMC on May 27th.
The Vietnam star will likely be in excellent fitness for the proposed match, after havingthe benefits competing at the SEA Games in early May.
Philippines killer Mark John Yap will visit Vietnam for a training camp at VSP Gym, in preparation for a big fight this coming July. The winner of an incredible 32 professional bouts, Yap is a 3x OPBF champion in Japan, a country where he was unbeaten for three years prior to the pandemic. Mark John Yap is a dangerous task for the Vietnam fighter. His most recent win was in January, where he jumped two weight divisions and savagely knocked out the very durable Leonardo Doronio.
Take a trip down memory lane !
Hanoi Vietnam October 2019, and last night's big winner Nguyễn Văn Hải fights an exhibition bout with world title mandatory Charly Suarez.

Van Hai, stepped into the ring this Saturday at the grand Ho Tram, to show the world again why he is called the Hanoi Hitman.
Representing Vietnam against China's Xiao Tao Su in the international line up, Van Hai won by majority decision: 76-76 77-75 77-75

VSP champ Nguyễn Văn Hải had no troubles making today's "catchweight" for tomorrow's big event in Vung Tau.
Nguyễn Văn Hải 60.2kg was just slightly in advance of opponent Xiao Tao Su 60.1kg for at the weigh-in for their 10 round clash tomorrow.
Former national champion Hải (4-1) will have his hands full with his more credentialed Chinese rival (11-2) and a two times regional belt winner.
Philippines star boxer was celebrated by none other than President BongBong Marcos today at an awards ceremony in Manila.
Also acknowledged for their outstanding achievements were world champion boxers Melvin Jerusalem and Marlon Tapales.
Charly Suarez recently ventured to Australia to take on a man who VSP regarded as that country's best 130lb fighter - Paul "Showtime" Fleming.
The match was as exciting and dramatic as expected, with Suarez clinching victory courtesy of a last round knockout.
But despite the quality of that encounter, there are those in Australia less than convinced.
The feedback was that perhaps Fleming was "faded", that maybe Suarez got lucky, with even some there referring to the Philippines' best as a "cab driver !"
The overwhelming sentiment is that these two great fighters would be no match for a younger and more powerful Liam Wilson.
Queensland star Liam Wilson was responsible for the knockout of former top Philippines 130lb Joe Noynay, and despite a loss, consolidated his fearsome reputation with a cracking display against Emanuel Navarrete just recently.
In an ominous show of power, Wilson rag dolled Navarrete and became the first man in the world to drop the staunch WBO champ.
Impressive stuff, and for Wilson, there are surely big wins ahead.
But Charly Suarez is far and away the best boxer in the Philippines right now, so for Wilson, he represents another significant but exciting challenge.
So how about it NO LIMIT,
let's fight our two roosters and let's see who comes out victorious !!!!
This is a huge fight for Australia, and for sure, for betting shops, as everyone in the Philippines will be putting their cash on the "cab driver" from Davao !
