Back on 28 October we asked the question.
Could the Philippines' only reigning world champion defend his belt without his chief trainer in the corner?
Answer — YES.
Pedro Taduran has retained his IBF minimumweight title with a unanimous decision over unbeaten Spaniard Brandon Moreno at the Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque.
The scores — 115-113, 115-113 and 120-108.
Yes, you read that right. One judge didn't give Moreno a single round !
Two close cards. One shutout. We'll leave you to draw your own conclusions on that one.
Remember the build-up. Carl Peñalosa never got his US visa. Joven Jimenez and former world champion Jerwin Ancajas stepped in. The fight was meant for Manila, then Madrid. Both fell through.
None of it mattered.
That's the fourth defence of his second reign as IBF champion. Moreno, 16-0 coming in and fighting outside Spain for the first time, goes home with his first loss.
So what's next for the Bicol southpaw ? A unification at 105 is the fight the fans want.
Make it happen !!
