Ifugao boxing prospect Carl Jammes “Wonder Boy” Martin gets his shot at the vacant WBA Asia super bantamweight title when he takes on Ronnie Baldonado at the Ultimate Knockout Challenge at the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City on March 12. Carl Jammes Martin closed last year with a gritty win over champion Mark Anthony Geraldo. It was a contest for the Philippines title, and regarded as the first significant step up for the Wonder Boy.
He passed the test with flying colors!! Geraldo applied non stop pressure throughout their epic match, and it was a mature performace by Martin to keep a cool head. Ultimately, it was the accuracy and crispness of the counter punch that swayed the judges in favor of Wonder Boy, and it proved to be a top quality title bout.
The Wonder Boy gets his first glimpse at a regional title here against 15 fight winner Baldonado, and getting the win will be no easy task!

"That's Amore" !! Two WBA Asia title holders in the house at ANNIHILATION TIGER UKC in Parañaque, the most recently crowned being Linn Sandstrom.
The Swedish fighter, trained in Australia by Tony Del Vecchio, scored a solid win to grab the belt from a Thai opponent that came to survive. It was Sandstrom's 6th win as a pro, and signaled better things to come.
And who better to compare notes with than the Wonder Boy himself, Carl Jammes Martin, who recently successfully defended the very same title!

One of the best fights you will see all year!
Ronnie Baldonado puts on a truly TIGER performance, giving the Wonder Boy his biggest career challenge so far.
The prize?
A WBA Asia belt and a world ranking. This fight was hellfire (as predicted !) and Martin showed huge composure, determination, and fitness to redress the first half of the fight.
The performance of Baldonado was phenomenal, and he will be a big star for Philippines boxing.
Can't wait to see what's next for Carl Jammes Martin ! Very impressive !

The "Wonder Boy" Carl Jammes Martin about to commence his ring walk for his WBA Asia assignment with Ronnie Baldonado.
The young boxing prodigy and recent Probellum signing, advanced to 19 and 0 (16 KO) with his gritty title win.
The fight between Baldonado and Martin was a classic, with Martin overcoming an early setback, only to work back into the contest and regain ascendency later in the bout.
Big kudos to Ronnie Baldonado, he was outstanding, and he made this another memorable bout for Wonder Boy and the fans.

Carl Jammes Martin pulls a Knockout in round 11 from a dominant Ronnie Baldonado in a classic.
Baldonado knocked down Wonder Boy in the second, and dominated till the mid stages, where a resurgent Martin edged back. In the end it was Martin's fitness that prevailed, against a totally exhausted Baldonado.
EPIC FIGHT!

The Wild Man Jino Rodrigo making international guests Linn Sandstrom and Jada feel welcome. When not a tour guide, the boisterous Rodrigo doubles as a boxer, and expect his clash with Roberto Gonzales to be one of the best of the day.
Can Jino get lucky two days in a row?
The three title fights all weighed in without problem, and all six boxers looked in magnificent shape.

The “Little Giant” makes his long awaited return at TIGER 2022, matching up with the experienced veteran Albert Alcoy. The bout marks a ring absence of more than 2.5 years for the locally based star, when he defeated the outstanding Renoel Pael in a thriller.
The win over Pael, a winner of 23 fights, highlighted the level that Escaner had worked to in his professional career. It also put him back on the winners’ list, after a previous loss to top American Joshua Greer ended in a dramatic stoppage loss. That blip punctuated a 10 match winning streak for the “Little Giant”.
The fight between top US prospect Joshua Greer and Giovanni Escaner must surely have been one of the most THRILLING in 2019. Greer appeared to be sailing towards a world title. With only one loss on his resume, to the unbeaten Stephen Fulton, Greer was expected to make a statement in the Escaner fight. But things didn’t go to plan for the high flying American. Escaner dropped Greer in the third round, and it really looked as if he was going to be finished off by the Little Giant. To his credit, Greer regained his senses, and in a to and fro round, managed to stop Escaner in round 8. The action was frenetic, and it seemed obvious that the Philippines fighter perhaps only got caught in his effort to drop the American for a second time. To illustrate the closeness of the bout, the judges had scores of 67-66 and 67-65 when the referee called a halt.
Giovanni Escaner has been sparring in Manila in preparation for March 12th, and if the rumours are correct, he will show no signs of ring rust upon his return. He has been working with quality opponents, including Carl Jammes Martin, who can confidently testify to the fact “The Little Giant is back!!!”

When it comes to skills and experience, look no further than outstanding super bantam Giovanni Escaner, who resumes at TIGER 2O22 next month. A winner of 20 bouts, national titles, and interim regional belts, Escaner has all the tools to be both boss and teacher!
So who better for young boxing prodigy Carl Jammes Martin to work with yesterday than the "Little Giant" himself!
Wonder Boy is on a fast track to learn as much as possible from top locals like Escaner before he heads overseas. Until then, he has important business at hand, tackling Ronnie Baldonado for the WBA Asia title.
Giovanni Escaner will make his first appearance since 2019, and meets Albert Alcoy, a winner of 15 fights.

Ronnie Baldonado claims that the Wonder Boy has had it easy in his unbeaten run, and has been given way too much respect from previous rivals. Baldonado, who has not fought since 2019, has been working hard on skills, strength and conditioning in the down time, and promises a more physical athlete in his return bout. Now 25, the former bantam has really developed solid muscle in the gym, and is convinced that 122 pounds is his new home! Those that have seen the recent efforts of "Jong Jong " are true believers also, saying that he is far more energetic and lethal at the new weight.
Baldonado is so confident, he wanted a big match at super bantam, and surely there is none bigger out there right now, than a WBA Asia title shot against boxing prodigy Carl Jammes Martin !

Just confirmed!!
Ronnie “Jong Jong” Baldonado will take on Carl Jammes Martin for the WBA Asia title in Manila on Saturday March 12. The Mindanao fighter boasts a superb record of 15 wins and 2 losses, and returns to the ring for the first time since late 2019. The solidly built Baldonado has a wealth of experience against varied styles of opponents, including international fights in China and Japan. Winning on the road in China is never easy, but Jong Jong made sure his efforts were not in vain, by knocking out his two opponents in Beijing!
Ronnie Baldonado jumps in weight class to take the Wonder Boy challenge, but the strong orthodox fighter looks a nice foil to Martin’s southpaw magic. He lacks nothing in the power department either, having put 9 of his previous victim’s to the sword. Baldonado will come to Manila all guns blazing, and he certainly won’t be fazed by the reputation of Carl Jammes Martin, nor his unbeaten record!
Expect fireworks here, as Baldonado will have the self belief that he will be the first to put this Wonder Boy on his butt!

JOSEPH AMBO SATURDAY MAY 13TH DUBAI

Surely a match made in heaven - Arnel Baconaje "The Silencer" has his eyes set on the RP National belt, but who better than "The Disaster" Jhon Gemino to thwart those ambitions ?
Baconaje v Gemino has been added to what is already a huge undercard to the Casimero bout at the Okada Casino on May 13th, and realistically, could really catch fire and become the fight of the night !
Arnel Baconaje has proved to be one of the Philippines classiest boxers in recent years, and is desperate to show that he is is the best super featherweight on the local scene.
The Disaster shapes as a bit of an unknown quantity, as despite three losses at his most recent, they were narrow points decisions against quality international opposition.
Jhon Gemino is world class when he is at best, having previously knocked out unbeaten Americans Toka Clary and Arnold Alejandro. The Parañaque based fighter also gave world champion Emanuel Navarrete a hell fight before being ultimately stopped in a great clash.
And be at his best he will need to be, as Arnel Baconaje is intent on wearing the Philippines national belt next Saturday !

Cagayan de Oro prospect Joseph "the Scorpion" Ambo was recently en route to Manila, with ambitions of hoisting the RP National super bantamweight title this month. But the talented 26 year old fighter has been earmarked for bigger things, and will be headed to Dubai on May 13th instead.
The Scorpion will jump up a weight class, and go to battle with the unbeaten Cuban Dayan Gonzalez (9-0) for the WBC Middle East featherweight title.
Gonzalez has looked electric in his career so far, and showed he is now sitting down on his punches more, securing knockout number 7 when he stopped the Philippines' Alie Laurel in March of this year.
But they breed them tough in Mindanao, and CDO boy Joseph Ambo (12-2) shows an excellent blend of skills, work rate and power to ensure the Cuban will need to be on his best behavior.
This will prove to be an interesting bout, because despite the fact that Joseph Ambo has a massive task on paper, the jump to featherweight gives all appearances that it will really suit him. He also has the style that will give the Cuban champ way more problems than his recent opposition.
Great fight coming to Dubai this May 13th !!
And they don't just happen !! This cracking bout was put together by the renowned matchmaker Mujtaba Kamal. Great work Kamal !!

Iloilo prodigy Arnel Baconaje will make a ring return at the Okada Casino on May 13th on a huge card headlined by John Riel Casimero.
The Elorde boxer has been on the end of tough scoring at his two most recent bouts - an IBF Lightweight clash in Vietnam, and an SD loss to Presco Carcosia in General Santos City.
Despite the quality of opposition, Baconaje appeared to do enough to have his hand raised in both matches, and he certainly showed the attributes of a boxer in hot form.
But that is now all history, and Arnel Baconaje is intent on redemption at Okada on May 13th - so beware a boxer scorned !
You can watch the full fight of Arnel Baconaje in Vietnam against a boxer a massive 6kg above his usual weight class (it's an amazing performance that has already received more than 800k views !!)

Ở trận đấu khác, Song Chan Ho (Hàn Quốc) thắng knock-out Min Saeng Bak (Thái Lan) sau năm hiệp ở hạng Super Lightweight.

Congrats
to VSP boy Nguyễn Văn Hải for a polished performance in Ho Tram against the Chinese power puncher Xiao Tao Su on Saturday.
The win propelled the Hanoi Hitman to Vietnam #1, and jumped him over almost 500 other boxers in world rankings.
The Vietnam fighter has always been one of the best known in the amateur scene, and is now finally getting to make up for lost time in the professional ranks.

Vietnam's best boxer Nguyễn Văn Duong will meet Philippines champion Mark John Yap in an exhibition bout at VSP Gym in HCMC on May 27th.
The Vietnam star will likely be in excellent fitness for the proposed match, after havingthe benefits competing at the SEA Games in early May.
Philippines killer Mark John Yap will visit Vietnam for a training camp at VSP Gym, in preparation for a big fight this coming July. The winner of an incredible 32 professional bouts, Yap is a 3x OPBF champion in Japan, a country where he was unbeaten for three years prior to the pandemic. Mark John Yap is a dangerous task for the Vietnam fighter. His most recent win was in January, where he jumped two weight divisions and savagely knocked out the very durable Leonardo Doronio.

VSP champ Nguyễn Văn Hải had no troubles making today's "catchweight" for tomorrow's big event in Vung Tau.
Nguyễn Văn Hải 60.2kg was just slightly in advance of opponent Xiao Tao Su 60.1kg for at the weigh-in for their 10 round clash tomorrow.
Former national champion Hải (4-1) will have his hands full with his more credentialed Chinese rival (11-2) and a two times regional belt winner.

Philippines star boxer was celebrated by none other than President BongBong Marcos today at an awards ceremony in Manila.
Also acknowledged for their outstanding achievements were world champion boxers Melvin Jerusalem and Marlon Tapales.

Charly Suarez recently ventured to Australia to take on a man who VSP regarded as that country's best 130lb fighter - Paul "Showtime" Fleming.
The match was as exciting and dramatic as expected, with Suarez clinching victory courtesy of a last round knockout.
But despite the quality of that encounter, there are those in Australia less than convinced.
The feedback was that perhaps Fleming was "faded", that maybe Suarez got lucky, with even some there referring to the Philippines' best as a "cab driver !"
The overwhelming sentiment is that these two great fighters would be no match for a younger and more powerful Liam Wilson.
Queensland star Liam Wilson was responsible for the knockout of former top Philippines 130lb Joe Noynay, and despite a loss, consolidated his fearsome reputation with a cracking display against Emanuel Navarrete just recently.
In an ominous show of power, Wilson rag dolled Navarrete and became the first man in the world to drop the staunch WBO champ.
Impressive stuff, and for Wilson, there are surely big wins ahead.
But Charly Suarez is far and away the best boxer in the Philippines right now, so for Wilson, he represents another significant but exciting challenge.
So how about it NO LIMIT,
let's fight our two roosters and let's see who comes out victorious !!!!
This is a huge fight for Australia, and for sure, for betting shops, as everyone in the Philippines will be putting their cash on the "cab driver" from Davao !

"Yong" from the Elorde Davao stable has always shown ability, and his first outing after the pandemic, his win over Julius Bala was a promising return.
Gun Kim is a promising and rangy South Korean, who is 2-1 but perhaps unlucky not to be unbeaten. His loss to Jae Young Kim was by split decision, yet most good judges agree that he should have been awarded the victory.

"Every opportunity to fight is a blessing for me. I like to show my skills, and now that I am learning the differences of professional boxing, I also like to show my power.
I have had many fights in different sports, also in amateur boxing. I know to respect all opponents, because they have trained hard to win also. Nguyễn Văn Hải is revered as perhaps the most experienced multi discipline fighter in Vietnam - but he also lays claims to being pound for pound the strongest !
A man with a passion for physical fitness, Nguyễn Văn Hải went for close to three years without a boxing match, all the time training young pupils in Hanoi in various fight techniques. But a return to the ring last year in Manila against Jerald Into rekindled his love for the sport, and he has since scored two impressive pro wins.
VSP Boxing star Hải will be fighting the main undercard bout in Ho Tram Vietnam next weekend, and will be joined by young Philippines prospect Romeo "Yong" Tenorio, who gets his first taste of competition on foreign soil.
Nguyễn Văn Hải (4-1) takes on resuming top Chinese prospect Xiao Tao Su (11-2) over 8 rounds in what should be a thriller.
Asked his feelings on the bout, Hải was very enthusiastic:
" I am very excited to be able to do what I love once more. Each match for me is a gift.

The Aussie champ put four titles on the line, and a world title eliminator was also up for grabs.
In what was a cracking contest, Fleming brought all his trademark energy and flair. The man known as "Showtime" is renowned for making great fights, his previous effort having been voted Australia's best of the year in 2022.
Suarez waits for notification from the Fleming team as to whether they wish to option a rematch clause in their contract.

Philippines Romeo Tenorio will also appear on this card at The Grand Ho Tram Resort and Casino.
This is a clip from last year in Manila, where Hai took on hot unbeaten Lightweight prospect Jerald Into.
It was the Vietnam boxer's first time to see a boxing ring in more than 2 years, but it turned out to be a quality bout.
Hai has won both follow up engagements since this match, and is now 4-1 in the pro ranks.

Davao boxer Romeo "Yong" Tenorio is set to make a surprise ring return on April 22nd in Vietnam against a South Korean opponent.
Tenorio has been called in at late notice to battle Gun Kim, a young boxer with a 2 win and 1 loss record. The promising Korean had his original combatant succumb to injury, and Romeo has answered the call.
Yong was starting to put it together in the pro ranks, winning 4 of his last 5 bouts prior to a three year break courtesy of the pandemic. But he resumed in promising fashion in October 2022, beating Julius Bala by unanimous decision, and will be looking to impress in his foreign debut later this month.
Romeo Tenorio will fight Gun Kim at the Grand Ho Tram Resort and Casino on Saturday April 22nd.

Vietnam's Nguyễn Văn Hải and the Philippines Romeo Tenorio take on international opponents at The Grand Ho Tram Resort and Casino on April 22nd.

DUONG TO BATTLE PHILIPPINES CHAMP ?
Vietnam's premier fighter Nguyễn Văn Duong hasn't seen much ring time since the Olympics, and will make a return for the SEA Games in early May. But his lack of recent competition has many wondering if the Bac Ninh boxer still has what it takes to fight at the highest level.
Philippines champion Mark John Yap will visit Vietnam in May for a training camp, and former 3X OPBF titleholder is open to working with the local talent while he is here.
A winner of 32 professional fights, Yap tore the heart out of Japan's feared Bantamweight division, going unbeaten in 10 fights over a 3 year period. His most recent fight was in January of this year, where he jumped two weight classes and knocked out former Manny Pacquiao sparring mate Leonardo Doronio.
Asked whether he would be open to an exhibition bout whilst he is in Vietnam, potentially against a killer like Nguyễn Văn Duong, the Philippines star smiled and said :
" Sure, why not, it sounds like a lot of fun ! Let's make it happen !! "

Philippines boxer Romeo Tenorio is rumoured to fight in Vietnam this month, with a bout against South Korean Gun Kim in the offing. The match will be in the 115 lb class, and will be Tenorio's first since October last year, when he beat Julias Bala by unanimous decision. Gun Kim is a fighter of promise, with a 2 win 1 loss career record.
Vietnam's most experienced fighter Nguyễn Văn Hải is set to take on China's Yongcai Liu in the Lightweight 61kg category.
The VSP Boxing star from Hanoi has won 4 bouts since turning professional, and is hoping a win against his Chinese opponent will fast track him in the rankings.
Yongcai Liu is a winner of 6 fights, but has not been active since the pandemic, so it will be interesting to see what level he is at. The Chinese boxer showed a lot of ability earlier in his career, where Top Rank sponsored him to go to America and learn with their boxers and training staff.
The match will be over 8 rounds and will be the main undercard at The Grand Ho Tram on Saturday April 22nd.
Here is Nguyễn Văn Hải's last fight at Ho Tram in December 2022, where he knocked out unbeaten Indonesian Paisal Panjaitan.

Ben Ligas put on a masterful boxing display in Pangasinan yesterday to keep the RP National Flyweight title in his grasp.
"The Sniper" took on the outstanding Genisis Libranza, a winner of 20 of 21 bouts, and he didn't disappoint.
Libranza threw hard questions at Ben Ligas from the opening bell, but a cool head and excellent shot selection by the incumbent champ was enough to secure a unanimous decision in the eyes of the judges.
Ligas is pictured post fight with top bantamweight and coach Jetro Pabustan.

Good luck all fighters!

Cracking card in Pangasinan tomorrow, highlighted even more so by this blistering main event - "the Sniper" Ben Ligas versus "the Cobra" Genisis Libranza.
Ligas is current national Flyweight champ with a 14-3 record, and takes on Libranza who has the amazing stats of 20-1.
Nobody is ducking anybody here !
Great main event for Pangasinan.

What a fight !!
A lot of people are really looking forward to this main undercard match between unbeaten hotshot Jonniel Laurente and the vastly experienced Pablito Canada.
VSP have a huge opinion of Canada, who has always stepped up at late notice and performed great against the very best fighters in the Philippines. Pablito Canada endorsed our opinion when he traveled to the General Santos City base of unbeaten star Michael Casama, and handed him his first loss by way of stunning KO.
There is no doubt that JL Laurente has a lot of potential, but the question remains, has he taken on too much top early by stepping in with the way more experienced Pablito Canada ??
Expect this to be one of the best fights all day !!

Two days to go !!
Lots of great fights in Pangasinan this Thursday, but especially excited for these main three.
Benny Ligas and Genisis Libranza have genuine claims to being the Philippines best Flyweight, as their records attest. This one is impossible to pick the winner with any confidence.
Jonniel Laurente is unbeaten, but he jumps hugely in class when he meets Pablito Canada, a guy that has delivered great performances at the very highest level. Canada has been in with JonJon Estrada, Richard Pumicpic and no less than Charly Suarez in recent bouts. And let's not forget that he also had a huge KO win over top unbeaten prospect Michael Casama not long ago - so this is a huge task for Laurente and one that will be a fantastic contest.
RoyRoy Sumugat and Richard Bulacan are two of the Philippines very best when they are "on", and be in zero doubt, both these guys will be prepped for killer performances this Thursday in Pangasinan.
