TIGER 2022 plays host to an array of top name fighters, but without doubt, one of the best match ups is Olivetti’s Remon Basas taking on Jason Buenaobra. These two boxers could not be any more different in style, yet both are on an upward trajectory. Perhaps the only form line that unites them, is a common opponent in the form of the very talented Lorenz Ladrada.
Remon “Bad Bad” Basas showed promising signs in his first bout of 2021, losing a points battle to Ladrada. Whilst beaten on timing and speed, he showed lots of come forward, and even late into the final round, he still loomed dangerously. He followed up that effort with an excellent win over a vastly improved Marklin Itim, a super close affair that was underscored by a massive punch count for both fighters. But it was the accuracy and shot selection of Basas that swayed the judges, and it was definitely a great showing by the Olivetti boxer.
Basas is a 23 year old prospect trained out of the Olivetti Gym, and his style is to bring constant pressure and fire no nonsense heavy shots, especially to the body. Whilst not particularly quick, he compensates by making good ring position, and has a nice timing to his looping shots that often catch his opponents off balance. And Remon Basas has got some heavy hands!!. With already 6 wins to date, “Bad Bad” has put 4 of those opponents to sleep. It is also noteworthy that his losses have been against quality boxers that boasted defensive styles and super win records.
There is no doubt that Remon Basas will be an improved fighter at his appearance next March, and will be stepping into the ring full of bad intentions. Yes, Jason Buenaobra is the more experienced and technical boxer. But Basas is strong, and he also owns a swarming style that gives rivals no peace, and he will be looking to make this a very dogged, physical contest.

Charly Suarez had been inactive (as were all local pinoy fighters) and the pandemic was proving to be a terrible time for many boxers who could not return home, and even worse, having a daily battle to feed themselves and their families.
VSP asked Mam Cucuy if it was possible to create a show so that Charly Suarez could resume his career. Despite all odds, she put together a great card that also unearthed another big talent - the Wolverine JonJon Estrada!
The event was aptly named Reboot "New Beginning" ,and even though there were only 5 bouts, and the boxers had to endure a "quarantine bubble", it was a lot of fun and marked the start of boxing again in the Philippines.

The relentless punching machine that is Remon Basas returns this month, and matches up with rangy young southpaw Jestine Ace Tesoro.
The bout will signal a move to the heavier weight classes for Basas, but without doubt, Olivetti Gym will have him well prepared for the task. The 24 year old fighter is still very much on the improvement path, but has already racked up 6 wins, and has experienced good opponents like Delmar Pellio, Lorenz Ladrada and Franco Serafica.
The great thing that has characterized all his performances is that he always brings the heat! This kid is relentlessly working in the ring, and has a low looping style that sets up really effective body punches.
Jestine Ace Tesoro is a really promising type. He had good moments against JonJon Estrada, outgunned a very savvy Lorence Rosas, and then was narrowly beaten in Japan. But for Remon Basas, Tesoro is just another guy across the ring, and he will be bringing a bucket load of BAD BAD intentions to the party !

Jason Buenaobra returned to the winners list with an outstanding win against a rampaging Remon Basas at TIGER 2O22 Ultimate Knockout Challenge in Paranaque.
This match proved to be one of the best of the day, pitting Buenaobra southpaw skills and footwork against Basas relentless pressure and workrate.
These two fighters had a common previous foe in top Mindanao fighter Lorenz Ladrada,
and it was really pleasing to see the improvements that they had made since those battles. Basas looked relentlessly bullish and dangerous, and displayed enhanced foot speed in the bout.
This was a fine performance by Jason Buenaobra, he worked nicely off a backfoot jab, made clever angles, and mitigated the advances of Bad Bad Basas with classy point scoring touches.
Great showing by southpaw Jason Buenaobra, who dominated the ring position for most part, setting his combos up with slick and varied jabs, and quick feet shift to his right.
This again was an improved Basas, and whilst out maneuvered, he managed to corner Buenaobra at times and land heavy shots of his own. He kept his opponent thinking the entire fight, which was expected !

Jason Buenaobra resumed from a long lay off, and took on Ladrada last December. Showing no signs of rust, “Manefisto” showed beautiful ring control from the southpaw stance, and dominated his opponent for much of the fight. The points loss doesn’t tell the whole story though, as he fought a better version of “Cerberus” Ladrada than Basas did, and he also enjoyed lots of great moments. That fight was also at featherweight, and no doubt, the move to super bantam will really assist his cause.
This one plays out as a total war!
