Jay Lloyd Quidlat made his professional debut in 2018, and in the space of a year, had already won 4 bouts performing in the Philippines, Japan and China. This win tally should realistically be extended to six , as Quidlat appeared to be the victim of some very dubious scoring in two drawn bouts. What were decidedly not dubious were his performances, where he consistently showed tight defences and pinpoint punching as his trademark.Two of his victims felt the brunt of this precision, falling to knockout at the hands of the Spark’s Boxing Gym boxer.
All this, and only 22 years of age!
The young man dubbed “The Storm” started his career in that perfectly named fashion, creating plenty of noise delivering two thunderous KO victories in his first two fights.
And he has looked nothing but impressive since. The fact that he has already tasted international experience is testament to his potential, and helps to put an “old head on young shoulders”.
Originally hailing from Iligan City in Lanao del Norte, Quidlat now trains at Paranaque. Being based in Manila, the promising fighter has been given access to top sparring and the ability to compete in local events. The exciting aspect of Quidlat’s career thus far is that he has shown constant improvement in each bout – constant progression!
Coming event will be put to the test, when he jumps in class to meet one of Philippines’ best super featherweight boxers in Arnel Baconaje. It is a huge assignment for Quidlat, but as he has looked so comfortable in all his previous bouts, it’s very possible that he will feel right at home against a better performed opponent. It will be an interesting contrast of styles also, as Baconaje shoots from a southpaw stance. It is notable that Lay Lloyd Quidlat looked estremely effective against a quality Japanese southpaw in Ryo Nakai, often picking him off with laser like counters. Both Baconaje and Quidlat have not fought since 2019, so that statistic certainly adds an additional layer of mystery to what should be an intriguing and high quality contest.
