The freakishly talented Charly Suarez makes his international debut here, and with an IBF title against Indonesia’s number one fighter just to add more spice.

But why would we expect any less from a man who is very definitely the best technical boxer that the Philippines has ever produced.

Suarez has racked up 15 wins at home at breakneck speed, and has perhaps lost 2 rounds in the process. He finished every bout unscathed and with a smile, suggesting it is all easy work for him. To add merit to this, Suarez certainly hasn’t had it easy, meeting guys like JonJon Estrada, Tomjune Mangubat, Delmar Pellio, Mark John Yap and Carlo Magali along the way. These are high skilled veterans that have a commonality – they punch with hurtful intent, yet Suarez has breezed through as if he is in a training session, picking up WBA and national titles into the bargain.

Charly Suarez moves on to another significant opponent here, Indonesia’s best fighter Defry Palulu.

This is a guy that Suarez was meant to fight in early 2020 for the WBC title, and it was a fight that the Indonesian was favoured to win. However the match was canceled due to the pandemic, and thankfully, these two great fighters get to meet in Vietnam for the IBF Asia belt.

In spite of Suarez’s amazing success as a pro, many of his countrymen doubt his ability to impact at world level. They cite his age and lack of power as the main impediments. But those close to the camp disagree!

This may interest some.

The Suarez team maintain he has lots of power, and that he had no intent on hurting his own countrymen. His Objective at home was to get valuable rounds and build a petrol tank for bigger fights abroad. Mission accomplished !

He says there will be absolutely no mercy shown to any foreign rivals, and if there is a knockout to be had, you’re going to see it in high definition !

SUAREZ PUMPED FOR SEPTEMBER RETURN

Welcome faces at Elorde Gym today were Philippines' best Charly Suarez and former national team mate and coach Delfin Boholst.
Suarez has a pending fight in the States in September, but at this stage, no opponents are stepping up. The King's Warrior has been a heavily avoided fighter in his short pro career, and hopefully we see this future world champ suitably matched in this coming bout.
Pictured with the duo today are coach Jun Labandia, Giovanni Escaner, and of course the Queen herself, Her Majesty Cucuy Elorde.

VIETNAM GUEST WINS IN AMERICAN RETURN

Charly Suarez has been a regular visitor to Vietnam. He fought an exhibition bout with Nguyễn Văn Hải at Victory8 in Hanoi, and he won the WBC belt at Ho Tram against Indonesia’s champion Defry Palulu.
Today he was Stateside, winning his return bout in Corpus Christi Texas on a Top Rank event. Suarez broke his hand in August of last year, but resumed in style today in a near shutout win over America's Luis Coria.
It was an emphatic performance, and likely to earn Suarez a world title eliminator shot at his next outing.

SUAREZ SCARES OFF HENRY LEBRON TEAM

The Philippines' Charly Suarez always looks great in sparring, but apparently a session where the King's Warrior was "on fire" was witnessed by the coach of Henry Lebron - and was enough for them to immediately pull out of their world title eliminator next Saturday night.
Lebron has now been consigned to the "Top Rank Scaredy Cat" bench warmers list, and will be replaced by Luis Coria 15-6 in what is Suarez return from a broken hand last August.
A win for Suarez will guarantee him a world title eliminator at his next outing - and you can bet your bottom dollar it won't be Henry Lebron in the other corner !

SUAREZ BACK BETTER THAN EVER

The Philippines' best boxer Charly Suarez resumes next Saturday on a big Top Rank show in Corpus Christi Texas - 8 long months after sustaining a broken hand in August of last year.
Despite looking comfortable in a lopsided decision win, Suarez actually did the damage in round one against tough Yohan Vasquez, and was forced to fight the remainder of their bout in southpaw.
An incredible effort !
The King's Warrior Charly Suarez last fought in Vietnam in December 2022 (hence the Christmas tree !) and followed up his win at Ho Tram with a 4 title win in Australia over unbeaten star Paul Fleming.
Suarez has been promised a world title eliminator bout if successful in next week's American bout, and all his friends at VSP wish him a career defining performance on that big stage.
Good luck Charly boy !

SUAREZ IN HAND CAST FOR 6 WEEKS

The King's Warrior will have his broken right hand in a protective cast for the next 6 weeks, but the good news is, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Suarez staged an amazing effort to stay composed after injuring the hand early in round one, and being put under constant pressure by excellent Dominican Yohan Vasquez.

It was a bitter sweet US debut for the Philippines best boxer, who will be hoping for a ring return later this year.

CHARLY SUAREZ BREAKS HIS HAND

Despite a dominant win at his USA debut, the King's Warrior Charly Suarez was the victim of misfortune.

Suarez broke his hand early in round one, forcing him to turn to his amateur skills and box his way to victory. The Philippines star turned southpaw frequently in the bout to ensure he survived  the ten rounds against his rugged opponent Yohan Vasquez.

SUAREZ WINS ON USA DEBUT

Charly Suarez turned away a scrappy challenge from Yohan Vasquez to enjoy a successful U.S. debut. after a ten-round, unanimous decision victory over Dominican Republic’s Vazquez. Scores were 98-92, 98-92 and 97-93 for Suarez in the opening bout of the evening.

Action from bell to bell was entertaining and competitive, to the point where Vasquez (25-4, 20KOs) was disappointed when he heard the lopsided scores. Suarez landed the crisper combinations and cleaner punches but was forced to fend off Vasquez who effectively cut off the ring in the middleweights.

Suarez—a 35-year-old from General Santos City, Philippines—regained control late in the fight to advance to 16-0 (9KOs). The bout was his third straight on the road, having previously posted wins in Vietnam last December and a come-from-behind 12th round stoppage of unbeaten Paul Fleming on March 15 in Sydney, Australia.

SUAREZ - FIGHT CAMP DONE - "LET'S FIGHT !"

The King's Warrior Charly Suarez has just completed his preparations in Las Vegas for this Sunday’s fight, and reports he is in killer shape and more than ready to fight.

Suarez will battle Dominican Yohan Vasquez 25-2, a hard hitter with 22 knockouts on his resume.

The Davao son was able to get some fast paced rounds in with both sons of fabled Ferocious Fernando Vargas, and also share the ring with Chris Eubank jr (pictured). Prior to that, the champ worked with Philippines national team members back home in Baguio.

Despite the calibre of his opponent, and the question marks surrounding his first bout in the US, Suarez will enter the ring a heavy favourite to put opponent Vasquez to the sword.

Suarez v Vasquez will take place at the Hard Rock Casino in Tulsa Oklahoma this Sunday.

SUAREZ STAKES UNBEATEN RECORD ON USA DEBUT AUGUST 26

CEBU CITY, Philippines– Charly Suarez, the unbeaten and world-rated super featherweight contender nicknamed “King’s Warrior” will debut in the United States on August 26, 2023.

The 34-year-old Olympian turned professional boxer will face Dominican Republic’s Yohan Vasquez in a non-title bout at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

This will be Suarez’s first fight in five months. His most recent bout was nothing short of impressive as he wrested three regional titles and earned a world title bout.

Last March 15, he went to Sydney Australia to challenge the erstwhile International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental, International Boxing Organization (IBO) Inter-Continental, and World Boxing Council (WBC) Asia super featherweight king Paul Fleming.

The Filipino scored a technical knockout in the 12th round against Fleming for a resounding upset.

The victory catapulted Suarez to No. 7 in the IBF super featherweight division, No. 10 in the World Boxing Organization (WBO), and No. 15 in the WBC.

He remains unbeaten with 15 wins and nine knockouts. Besides the three regional titles, Suarez is also the IBF Asia super featherweight king.

Meanwhile, Vasquez, 29, has a more experienced record. The former Dominican Republic lightweight champion holds a record of 25 wins, 20 knockouts, and three defeats.

Davao boxer Suarez (15-0) will head to Oklahoma to take on Yohan Vasquez (25-3) in a ten round non title contest.

THIS IS THE FIGHT THAT "MUST" HAPPEN !!!

Charly Suarez recently ventured to Australia to take on a man who VSP regarded as that country's best 130lb fighter - Paul "Showtime" Fleming.

The match was as exciting and dramatic as expected, with Suarez clinching victory courtesy of a last round knockout.

But despite the quality of that encounter, there are those in Australia less than convinced.

The feedback was that perhaps Fleming was "faded", that maybe Suarez got lucky, with even some there referring to the Philippines' best as a "cab driver !"

The overwhelming sentiment is that these two great fighters would be no match for a younger and more powerful Liam Wilson.

Queensland star Liam Wilson was responsible for the knockout of former top Philippines 130lb Joe Noynay, and despite a loss, consolidated his fearsome reputation with a cracking display against Emanuel Navarrete just recently.

In an ominous show of power, Wilson rag dolled Navarrete and became the first man in the world to drop the staunch WBO champ.

Impressive stuff, and for Wilson, there are surely big wins ahead.

But Charly Suarez is far and away the best boxer in the Philippines right now, so for Wilson, he represents another significant but exciting challenge.

So how about it NO LIMIT,

let's fight our two roosters and let's see who comes out victorious !!!!

This is a huge fight for Australia, and for sure, for betting shops, as everyone in the Philippines will be putting their cash on the "cab driver" from Davao !

AUSSIE STAR HAS A "REMATCH CLAUSE"

Paul Fleming is arguably the most talented fighter that Australia has ever produced, and he carried an unbeaten record of 28-0 to the ring when he recently took on Charly Suarez in Sydney.

The Aussie champ put four titles on the line, and a world title eliminator was also up for grabs.

In what was a cracking contest, Fleming brought all his trademark energy and flair. The man known as "Showtime" is renowned for making great fights, his previous effort having been voted Australia's best of the year in 2022.

Suarez waits for notification from the Fleming team as to whether they wish to option a rematch clause in their contract.

Nguyễn Văn Hải is rapidly climbing in the professional ranks also. The "Hanoi Hitman" has 3 wins, and will be looking to add to his tally at VSP PRO on Saturday March 25th.

SUAREZ VOWS TO GO ALL OUT ON FLEMING

SUAREZ VOWS TO GO ALL OUT ON FLEMING

*story courtesy of Manila Standard

Former Olympian Charly Suarez has vowed to go all out against fellow undefeated Paul Fleming of Australia in their International Boxing Organization super featherweight title bout on Wednesday in Sydney, Australia.

"Pambihira lang itong ganitong pagkakataon. Ito na talaga chance ko,” said Suarez, who at 34 cannot afford to be delayed any longer in his quest for a world boxing title. “Ang totoo kong kalaban is sarili ko. Kahit saang larangan, malaking part ‘yung maturity. Iba ka nang mag-isip kaysa dati.”

“Basta ako lalaban ako at dapat makuha ko ito. Ito na ‘yung level ng mindset ko ngayon. ‘Di ko na pakakawalan, wala ng excuse,” added Suarez, a former Filipino Olympian, who spent most of his boxing career as a national athlete.

After beating all his first 14 opponents, eight of them via stoppage, Suarez is facing his toughest test in his two-year professional boxing career—a taller foe, who has 29 wins with 18 knockouts and without a defeat.

Suarez’s manager and coach Delfin Boholst said they have done everything in their training camp to make Charly stronger than ever.

“Makikita natin si Charly may edad na pero, ‘yung body niya sariwa. Sa laban makikita niyo talaga ‘yung ginawa namin na preparation ni Charly,” he said.

Without the backing of a moneyed manager and promoter, Suarez’s camp turned to friends and supporters for their needs. Some of those who answered their plea for support were former Philippine National Police chief Gen. Debold Sinas and businessman-philanthropist Edward Aguilar.

Sinas and Aguilar, who are close friends and partners in several business ventures, provided financial support for training and other needs of Suarez.

Suarez is coming off a big conquest of the International Boxing Federation Asia junior lightweight title with a technical knockout win over Defry Palulu of Indonesia at the Grand Ho Tram Hotel in Vietnam last Dec. 10.

Two months earlier, the many-time Southeast Asian Games champion decisioned compatriot Carlo Magali to successfully defend the World Boxing Association Asia Super Featherweight title.

As an amateur, Suarez won three Southeast Asian Games golds—two in the lightweight division (2011 Jakarta, 2019 Manila) and one in the featherweight category (2009 Laos)—plus a bronze in 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, the left-handed Fleming said he won’t be underestimating Suarez as he has set a fight strategy that suits him against a smaller opponent.

“If Suarez comes at me, I have a counter-punching strategy, and if he stays away then I will come at him,” the Australian said.

FLEMING TO MAKE UP FOR LOST TIME
March 13, 2023

FLEMING TO MAKE UP FOR LOST TIME

story courtesy BoxingTalk.com

Australia’s undefeated indigenous boxer Paul Fleming is on a mission to win his next three fights and set up the opportunity to capture a 130-pound title. After years of low activity (three fights since the start of 2019), Fleming's next step takes place in St. Marys, Sydney on March 15th when he faces undefeated Filipino challenger Charly Suarez. Fleming comes from the small town of Tully in outback northern Australia where he first started boxing at age 12 in 2001.

Fleming (29-0-1) finds himself carrying on the tradition of past Australian indigenous boxers such as Aboriginal boxing legend Lionel Rose who unified the world titles (1964-76), superstar rugby league players and champions of the boxing ring Tony Mundine and his son Anthony Mundine Jr., Dave Sands inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame as “the greatest boxers never to have won a world title”, 2005 world champion Robert Peden, Wally Carr, who competed in six divisions over a stellar fifteen-year career, and Daniel Geale who won two titles before losing to Gennady Golovkin at Madison Square in 2014.

While Fleming takes  confidence from his unbeaten streak, he accepts as “a matter of fact” that he has been ignored on the international stage. “By now I should have become a world champion. I see it as the way of the boxing world, and the cards didn’t fall my way. But I feel my destiny is in the winning circle, as the coming world champion.“

As for Suarez (14-0), Fleming says, “Suarez, like me, hasn’t been beaten. This is where our paths come together – here in Sydney – and I am ready.”

The left-handed Fleming said he won’t be underestimating Suarez, who is 34 years old and almost 4 inches shorter in size. “All my fights have been about fighting with a winning strategy,” he asserts. “If Suarez comes at me I have a counter punching strategy, and if he stays away then I will come at him.”

Fleming has spent several months sparring with top Aussies, including the Maloney brothers. “Neither of us held back while sparring.” he said after some competitive rounds with Andrew Moloney.

But Fleming knows that the window is closing for him to win a world title. "What’s been so good for me in boxing is that I have not been beaten, not once. I haven’t been bashed, and I have gained a lot of experience. I’ve fought against the best in Australia and now it’s time to break out and take on the best in the world... after this the world title will be one big step closer.”

LEMING BRINGS IN THE STARS FOR SUAREZ

The word is that Australian Paul Fleming has been on fire in training, and has been shredding sparring partners in advance of his huge clash with Charly Suarez on March 15th.

So much so that Team Fleming has been forced to bring some big names into camp in order to be pitch perfect for Suarez.

George Kambosos has done rounds, and now former world champ Andrew Maloney is the latest to lend his skills. The boys did some high quality rounds this week and Fleming really impressed.

The Aussie star will spar again with Maloney this Sunday as part of a public workout to promote the impending battle with Suarez.

There is huge confidence coming from those close to Fleming that he will not only hand the whiz kid Suarez his first defeat, it will come by way of stoppage.

Paul "Showtime" Fleming is unbeaten in 28 fights, with 18 of those wins coming by way of KNOCKOUT.

CHARLY SUAREZ - RINGSIDE VIEW OF DEBUT

Philippines star Charly Suarez heads to Australia next month to take on the unbeaten local champion Paul Fleming (28-0)

Suarez was an acclaimed amateur, and despite a relatively recent transition to the pro ranks, the King's Warrior has already racked up 14 impressive wins.

And identical to Fleming, the Davao fighter also retains an unbeaten record.

But what seems astounding about Suarez is that, for a boxer with such a wealth of amateur experience, he has improved markedly since turning pro.

So much so, he actually appears to be an even better prospect at the longer round format.

That said, Suarez was touted as the "next big thing" when he decided to finally go pro, and here is some ringside action taken from the first professional performance of Charly Suarez.

He shows all that dynamism that he is renowned for, and it will give you some insight as to what Australia will be getting come March 15th.

February 7, 2023

DID HE FORGET ABOUT CHARLY SUAREZ ???

Paul Fleming has questioned the experience of Liam Wilson's team after the younger man's controversial world-title loss, saying he would never have let the weigh-in go ahead.

And the ageing super featherweight says he will not be a "rebound fight" after being called out following Wilson's gut-wrenching defeat in Phoenix.

Wilson has appealed against the decision in his loss to Emanuel Navarrete, keeping alive slim hopes of a rematch after footage showed a 27-second allowance - almost triple the traditional count - when the Australian floored the red-hot favourite in the fourth round.

The rank outsider, in his US debut, also weighed in about 2kg lighter than expected in a bizarre lead-in drama that had Wilson's camp threatening to boycott the WBO title fight after claims of cheating.

Wilson was eventually stopped in the ninth round on Friday by a resurgent Navarrete, who became a three-division champion and improved to a perfect 11 wins in world-title fights to set up a lucrative blockbuster with fellow Mexican Oscar Valdez.

"I would have said, 'No way, these scales aren't right' and stopped it then and there and requested another set of scales," Fleming told AAP of the weigh-in drama in which Navarrete came in narrowly under the 59kg limit.

"I guess that's just inexperience."

Keen to capitalise on a profile boost after scaring the likely future hall-of-famer, Wilson has called out Fleming for an all-Australian blockbuster.

But Fleming (28 wins, one no result) fights at the same weight, is world ranked by rival bodies the WBA and IBF and is quickly rebuilding his following in a late-blooming career.

If the 34-year-old beats impressive Filipino Charly Suarez (18-0) on March 16 in Sydney he will move closer to an overdue title shot - but potentially further from a duel with WBO favourite Wilson.

He just got his shot at the world title," Beijing Olympian Fleming said.

"I'm nearly 35 and still haven't had mine, so it's the Suarez fight first and then I'm not going to fight Liam for his ego or a rebound.

"I only want fights that'll move me closer to a world title.

"If it is one of those, then 150 per cent let's do it; we've been calling for it and it's a bit funny now it suits him he's calling it out."

If the pair continue to diverge it could mean they only fight to unify different world-title belts.

"Liam's very dangerous very early, but from what I've seen he loses his way (in the later rounds)," Fleming said.

"He's got a good left hook, but that one shot ain't going to work fighting me.

"I'm more elusive; you've got to have more in your repertoire."

LIAM WILSON CALLS OUT PAUL FLEMING

LIAM WILSON CALLS OUT PAUL FLEMING

The team of Liam Wilson have turned their attentions to Australian indigenous star Paul Fleming, and possibly to Teofimo Lopez conqueror George Kambosos, if they are not granted a rematch after Saturday's controversial title fight in the US.

The No Limit team have lodged a complaint regarding the delay (up to 28 seconds) afforded to Emmanuel Navarrete after Wilson dropped him in the 4th round of their fight.

Paul Fleming has an outstanding record of 28 and 0, and many regard the man dubbed "Showtime" as the most naturally talented Aussie fighter in recent  years. He is also ranked in the top 15 with the IBF, WBA and WBC, and will force his way into the top 10 assuming he is successful in his next bout on March 16th.

Paul Fleming meets Philippines star Charly Suarez in Sydney, and it appears the teams of Wilson and Fleming are both totally overlooking the unbeaten pinoy.

The word is strong in Australia that the Fleming team are extremely confident of delivering the King's Warrior his first loss, and are predicting it to come in spectacular fashion. They feel a knockout win is required to stamp his claims to being Australia's best in the weight class.

Alternatively, a win by Suarez elevates the Philippines man to  #3 with the IBF, and a possible mouth watering clash with Liam Wilson.

PUT THESE TWO ON YOUR "WATCH" LIST

Two of the best young emerging talents in the Philippines come out of Quibors Boxing Gym in Manila.

Weljon Mindoro and Jerald Into are still in the learning phase of their boxing careers, but have performed amazingly well so far, and have both managed to maintain unbeaten records.

Unlike many of their industry colleagues, Mindoro and Into are blessed with height and wing span, and this will be a huge asset once they progress to international bouts. Jerald Into has already had a taste, putting on a great performance to outpoint top Vietnam visitor Nguyễn Văn Hải at home in Manila in August 2022.

The two young fighters attracted some interested onlookers today, and were watched on by top trainer and fighter combination Delfin Boholst and Charly Suarez.\

QUIBORS BOYS CHASING BLUE SKIES

Two of the most promising young boxers in the Philippines got a surprise visit from the King's Warrior Charly Suarez earlier today.

Jerald Into and Weljon Mindoro are both  improving boxers on a steep learning curve, but have been outstanding in their ring performances so far. They also show all the attributes of excellent fundamentals provided by the hard working coaches at Quibors Boxing Gym.

Into is a tall southpaw lightweight, who is unbeaten in 7 fights. His most recent performance was a really impressive showing, stopping the experienced Monico Laurente in the 4th round.

Middleweight Weljon Mindoro has been nothing short of outstanding in his short career, also unbeaten, and scoring 10 knockouts in his 10 wins thus far. The youngster also has experience sparring with Olympic medallist Eumir Marcial, and it is pretty clear that "Triggerman" is running out of opposition at home.

It is hoped that both these top prospects will get an opportunity to show their wares in Vietnam in 2O23.

Charly Suarez will begin training soon as he has an important assignment in Australia on March 17th. The King's Warrior takes on Australia's best Paul Fleming, who with a record of 28 and 0, is no easy task !

Then again, beating Charly Suarez is no simple feat either !!

*story courtesy Manila Standard

Former Olympian and still unbeaten pro boxer Charly Suarez faces a fellow undefeated opponent in Paul Fleming of Australia in what could be the toughest stumbling block to his world title dream.

The showdown between the two undefeated fighters will be held in Australia on March 17, with multiple super featherweight 130lb titles on the line, including the International Boxing Federation Intercontinental, World Boxing Association Oceania, World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council and the International Boxing Organization Intercontinental belts.

“This will be the biggest fight in Australia this year,” said Robert Hill, Suarez’s promoter.

“Paul Fleming is Showtime, and he is facing the best boxer I have seen from the Philippines — point blank,” he added.

Suarez, who has 18 wins with 8 knockouts, is still fresh from his conquest of the International Boxing Federation Asia junior lightweight with a technical knockout win over Defry Palulu of Indonesia at the Grand Ho Tram Hotel in Vietnam last Dec. 10.

Two months earlier, the many-time Southeast Asian Games champion decisioned compatriot Carlo Magali to successfully defend the World Boxing Association Asia Super Featherweight title.

“Paghahandaan namin ito ng maayos. Magandang opportunity ‘pag nakuha namin ito” said Suarez’s coach and manager, Delfin Boholst.

Hill said Suarez was earlier being pitted against Japan’s top-rated Super Featherweight Yoshimutsu Kimura for the IBF Asia title, but the Japanese was knocked out in a non-title bout last week in Tokyo, hence, the focus was moved to Fleming.

Suarez’s exploits in the ring was also recognized by the Philippine Army, which promoted him to Private First Class for his achievements last year, including being named Boxer of the Month by the WBA Asia.

No less than Army Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., pinned the new rank on Suarez in a ceremony held at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Jan. 13.

As an amateur, Suarez won three golds — two in lightweight (2011 Jakarta, 2019 Manila) and one in the featherweight (2009 Laos) — and one bronze (2017 Kuala Lumpur) at the Southeast Asian Games. He also competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he dropped a split decision to the unbeaten IBF world champion Joe Cordina.

Paul Fleming of Australia is also a man of many accomplishments. The indigenous star is a former esteemed amateur and Olympian, and is undefeated in 28 professional fights.

CHAMP SUAREZ DROPS IN TO SEE THE BOSS

Nation’s pride in professional boxing, the unbeaten (14-0-0) Charly “King’s Warrior” Suarez paid a courtesy call on GAB Chairman Atty. Richard S. Clarin at Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Office in Makati City.

The PH Army boxer Suarez won his fight against Indonesian Defry Palulu last December 10, 2022 in Vietnam for the vacant IBF Asia Super Featherweight Title by a Technical Knock-Out in the 2nd Round of a 12-Round bout.

Suarez (IBF no. 8 ) is slated to fight against a tough opponent Australian champion Paul Fleming (IBF no. 13) who has a record of 28-0-1. The clash of both undefeated boxers will be held in Australia on March 17, 2023.

Chairman Clarin personally praised the multi-awarded Suarez for his unblemished record. Knowing that every boxer who fights abroad has individual specific issues, Chairman Clarin pointed out that, among other assistance, GAB, through the GAB Legal Division headed by Atty. Ermar Benitez, is more than willing to provide legal support especially with contract negotiations.

Suarez openly shared his experiences in professional boxing and very much appreciate the dedication of GAB in coming up with fair contract agreement for fights abroad, simplification of  document processing, protection of boxers by fair matchmaking, and provision for other benefits to professional boxers.

Chairman Clarin concluded the meeting with words of encouragement to the boxing champ with assurance of full support to all Filipino boxers here and abroad.

SUAREZ TO TAKE ON AUSSIE STAR MARCH 17

This just got made !!!!!!

Yes, it's official  - Philippines best Charly Suarez will take on Australia's best Paul Fleming in a showdown for the IBF intercontinental, WBA Oceania and WBC Asia titles. The iconic bout will take place in Sydney on March 17th.

A win for either fighter will likely catapult them into    a world title mandatory position. Both fighters are unbeaten, both are former Olympians, and both are blessed with supernatural hand and foot speed. Indigenous prodigy Paul Fleming was responsible for the "Fight of the Year" in Australia in 2022, and the man known as Showtime is peerless when it comes to non stop action.

To counter the claims of the Aussie, Charly Suarez has been on an ominous run of 10 wins in the last two years, all against quality opponents. Tellingly, he has barely broken a sweat in his rankings surge, and lost few, if any, rounds.

This is a HUGE FIGHT for both Australia and the Philippines, and a dominant performance by Suarez will certainly put the world on notice.

ANOTHER YEAR - ANOTHER JOURNEY

Was it ever in doubt ?

YAP IS BACK !

Mark John Yap makes his eagerly awaited ring return at UKC REVOLUTION 2023 against former Manny Pacquiao sparring partner Leonardo Doronio.

Yap has the reputation as one of the Philippines' best internationally performed boxers of recent years, thus earning him The Journey Man tag, and he will be looking to embark his 2023 trip with a great performance at home.

The former bantamweight star has only recently made the super featherweight division his new home, yet will challenge Doronio at Lightweight, such is the difficulty in getting the Mindanao product decent competition in a season opener.

Mark John Yap produced a classy performance against Charly Suarez for the WBA Asia title, and endorsed that effort with an impressive win over Papua New Guinea's best Junior Kauko Raka.

Yap then ventured to Vietnam to compete at Fortunes of War, and looked good in a fast paced short format exhibition event.

Leonardo Doronio is a very experienced boxer, who will hold the advantage of being the slightly larger man. He posted good wins over Bryan Macamay and Jimmy Borbon, before a points loss to outstanding pinoy Arnel Baconaje.  He will prove to be a great measure of where Mark John Yap is early in his 2023 adventure.

But the word is out - Yap is back !

January 30th marks the start of a new journey.

WHO IS NEXT FOR CHAMP CHARLY SUAREZ ?
January 11, 2023

WHO IS NEXT FOR CHAMP CHARLY SUAREZ ?

Philippines' greatest boxer Charly Suarez recently secured the IBF Asia belt, and by defeating Indonesia’s top rated Defry Palulu (WBC Asia champion) he was elevated to #8 in the world ranking by the International Boxing Federation.

Suarez has progressed through the professional ranks at breakneck speed, winning 14 in a row, and picking up WBA, IBF and RP National belts in the process. He is also now ranked at #4 in the latest OPBF rankings.

Suarez will look to defend his IBF title, and was originally mooted to meet Japan's top rated Super Featherweight Yoshimutsu Kimura.

Kimura was viewed as a solid offensive fighter with poor defense, and not a serious challenge for Suarez. This viewpoint proved accurate when Kimura was knocked out last week in a non title bout in Tokyo.

The focus has now moved to a fighter that VSP are a huge fan of - the unbeaten Australian champion Paul Fleming.

The proud indigenous prodigy dubbed "Showtime" has an amazing record of 28 and 0 with 18 knockouts,  and brings an electric brand of high octane energy to the ring that fans just love.

Fleming also holds IBF, WBA, WBC and IBO regional belts, and like the King's Warrior, is gunning for a world title shot.

Sounds perfect !

VIETNAM READY TO IMPRESS AT HOIANA

Three Vietnamese fighters have been selected to perform at the "Legendary" boxing event next Saturday night. The show will host fighters from 7 countries, and Vietnam has strong chances in their bouts.
Dinh Hong Quân is without doubt the most experienced of the trio, and this HCMC based boxer is a winner of IBF championship belts previously.
Quân will take on the current WBF champion from Indonesia, Paisal Panjaitan, a do or die style fighter who is very exciting to watch.

VBO will be adding to the international flavor, by inviting many more countries to Vietnam's first ever boxing convention. We will be hosting commissions, sanctioning bodies and industry participants from more than 12 countries - all coming together to make this sport prosper in the Asian region.

"DREAM BOY" WANTS THE VERY BEST NGAKA

South Korean prospect Lee Juyeong is hoping that fans get to see the very best version of Botswana's Moabi Ngaka come August 3rd.
The two fighters are scheduled to meet at the "Legendary" International boxing championship at the Hoiana Resort and Casino Vietnam.
A win for Ngaka is essential if he wants to keep alive his hopes for a WBF title shot.
But for the younger Lee Juyeong, his confidence is high of knocking out Ngaka, and is hoping that the African boxer is in his best shape and ready to put on a show.

"I know my opponent is a great boxer, and I respect that he will travel to fight me. But I know he has no match for a long time, and I hope this will not make him give a bad performance.
I have trained very hard to stop Ngaka, and make a beautiful victory. I will say to all the fans that Dream Boy will make it great. You will really love this fight - a lot !."

Moabi Ngaka is scheduled to fly out of Botswana on July 29th.

DENNIS ENDAR PRIMED FOR VIETNAM DEBUT
July 18, 2024

DENNIS ENDAR PRIMED FOR VIETNAM DEBUT

The Philippines runs very deep for talent in the flyweight class right now, and Davao's Dennis Endar is very indicative of the potential stars that are rapidly climbing those ranks.
The "Machine Gun" wll head to Vietnam next month to take on China's #1 Hu Longyi, a man many tipped to be a future world title contender. Longyi is a product of the Shenzen Jianzhi Pro Combat Academy, the same star factory that made main event boxer Zhu DianXing.

But how do we best compare the champion Hu Longyi with Dennis Endar?

BoxRec has Longyi listed at 41, with Endar at 82.
But more relevant is a common opponent - the unbeaten Angilou Dalogdog !
Dennis Endar fought a great battle with Dalogdog, only to lose by Unanimous Decision. It was a torrid bout, and it was obvious that both fighters would show improvements.
But what was more interesting is that Dalogdog faced China’s Hu Longyi at his very next appearance.
This was a far closer match, which Longyi "lost" by split decision, but to keep it real - to say that the Chinese boxer was "unlucky" with the judges is an understatement. Longyi also dropped Angilou Dalogdog in this quality match.
Now that is all water under the bridge !
That was July of last year, and both boxers have improved another galaxy since then.
And you would suspect that the Philippines 🇵🇭 boy may have the advantages in that regard.

The words coming out of MP Davao are sounding extremely confident !

"We are excited for this opportunity to fight against a great boxer like this, but we are more than ready - Vietnam, the Machine Gun is coming your way on August 3rd !"

JONNIEL LAURENTE WINS A THRILLER

Amazing fight last night between super talented southpaw Jestine Tesoro and Elorde prodigy Jonniel Laurente.
There was lots of to and fro action from these two dynamic fighters, who took the Philippines Games and Amusement Board Youth title the full ten rounds and to a points decision.
This was a cracking fight, and despite the UD (97-93 97-93 96-92), Jestine had plenty of great moments and was really impressive in this bout.
Great work by Jonniel Laurente, who will surely be testing himself on foreign soil again in the near future.

QUÂN TO FIGHT AT HOIANA ON AUGUST 3RD
Top flight Vietnam 🇻🇳 Lightweight Dinh Hong Quân will return to the ring next month against Indonesia’s Paisal Panjaitan.
Quân is well known in the Asian region, having staved off challenges from fighters of the calibre of Philippines' Delmar Pellio, Jules Victoriano and Arnel Baconaje in IBF title wins.
The Vietnam fighter was most recently sighted in March, scoring a comprehensive victory over Japan's Katsunori Endo, and a further win against Panjaitan will see Dinh Hong Quân right back in titles contention.

But Indonesia's 🇮🇩 Paisal Panjaitan represents a significant stumbling block.
This young man is shaping as one of his country’s best fight prospects, winning his last two matches by knockout, and securing a WBF title in the process.
This is a boxer that cares little for reputations, and will come with a determination that will require Dinh Hong Quân to produce a career defining performance.

IS THIS CHINA'S NEXT WORLD CHAMPION ??
July 17, 2024

IS THIS CHINA'S NEXT WORLD CHAMPION ??

China's DianXing Zhu has a 2024 World title in his sights, but he has just one obstacle in his path.
A Philippines' boxer, hailing from the SanMan stable in the the southern island of Mindanao, going by the name of Jerry Francisco !!

DianXing Zhu and Jerry Francisco will wage war for the WBO Global title at the Hoiana Resort and Casino on Saturday August 3rd.
A win in Vietnam secures the Chinese fighter a World Title shot to be held in Korea later this year.

The Chinese champion has been a virtual buzzsaw through recent opponents, whilst Francisco improved on his excellent 10-2 record with an impressive win in April of this year.

So how do these two main event stars line up ?

Zhu DianXing - China’s top ranked fighter comes to Vietnam this August with singular intent – to show that he is the best minimumweight fighter on the planet !!
Zhu Dian matches up against the battle hardened Philippines’ war monger Jerry Francisco, and the Chinese boxer has been promised a World Title shot if he can score an impressive win. The stakes are huge in this main event for the WBO Oriental title, and if you have never witnessed this Chinese phenomenon before, you can be sure he won’t let this opportunity fall from his grasp.
Zhu DianXing is a paradox. Almost meditative in his approach, he suffocates and then destroys the will of his opponents. His style is to start quite slowly, measuring his rivals, but then ramps up the volume and power to a level that other fighters simply can’t survive. And he likes to fight close – “phone box” close !
Now that you have got the idea, you can be sure that this main event will be BRUTAL !!!

Jerry Francisco – hails from General Santos City in the Philippines, a famous fight breeding ground that has spawned many of Asia’s best pugilistic talents, none more famous than 8 division world champion Manny Pacquiao !
Francisco is one of many from a long assembly line of talent hailing from southern Mindanao, but he has been given an extraordinarily difficult task if he is to hoist the WBO title – he first needs to dismantle a potential world champion named Zhu DianXing !
The 27 year old filipino comes to Vietnam with an impressive record deserving of his title shot. Francisco is a hard puncher with a quality chin, whilst his accuracy is greatest attribute. Testament to this fact is his ring monicker “Marksman” – and it will undoubtedly be the game plan of Team Francisco to time the Chinese champion with well placed counters, and to punch between the punches, that will surely come at escalating levels as the match progresses.
History tells us that you cannot outwork Zhu DianXing - those that have tried have been dragged into deep waters and drowned !
To beat the Chinese champion - it requires smarts, patience and the skills of a “Marksman”.

TRAN TAN QUANG DAO WINS HOIANA CALL UP

Trần Tấn Quang Đạo sits amongst three Vietnamese boxers that have been invited to perform at a big international event in Danang next month.
The "Legendary" International professional boxing event will be the biggest sports show in Vietnam this year, and will host fighters from 7 visiting countries.
The event will be headlined by two world class title fights, with combatants competing for WBO and IBF belts.
Đạo will take on China's Xu Senlin in a 4 round match at Super Lightweight 63.5kg

How do the two fighters line up ??:

Tran Quang Dao – this Vietnam fighter was lauded as the most improved performer of 2023, posting two excellent victories at VSP PRO, before a narrow and contentious points loss in his final bout that year.
The Hanoi boxer brings a continually evolving skillset to the ring – beautiful variety on the jab, nice distance and timing on counters, and he works to search for angles so that he can work on both his inside and long game.
Dao always provides a cerebral performance, and it will be very interesting to see where this technician is at for his first assignment of 2024.

Xu Senlin – this Chinese prospect arrives in Vietnam off the back of a last start stunning knockout performance in the amateur ranks.
Xu Senlin is a stablemate to the main event fighter, defending WBO champion Zhu DianXing, and fighters from that gym are famed for their cardio and durability. But this kid has power also, and his Vietnam opponent will need to be switched on for every second of this four rounder to ensure that he finishes on his feet.
Xu Senlin is very tall, and despite his moderate hand speed, he does pack plenty of firepower. This man from China spells DANGER !

"I WILL KNOCK OUT MOABI NGAKA "
July 12, 2024

"I WILL KNOCK OUT MOABI NGAKA "

South Korean 🇰🇷 hot prospect Lee Juyeong says he is destroying sparring partners ahead of his August 3rd clash in Vietnam with Moabi Ngaka.
The bout will occur at a huge international event to be held at the Hoiana Resort and Casino in Danang.

Lee Juyeong won two of his last three bouts, but was bitterly disappointed by his performance in a controversial points loss in January. But he is adament he will make amends against Botswana’s #1 boxer Moabi Ngaka.

"I made a lot of mistakes in that fight, a bad game plan, and I lost to a very skilled boxer from Taiwan. But I was the more powerful fighter, and i believe I gave him too much respect. The match at Hoiana will be my chance to shine again."

"My opponent Moabi Ngaka is a great fighter, but I'm not afraid. I'm stronger and braver. I'll fight whoever comes. I want to tell Ngaka, let's make a great fight !"

The South Korean has been in devastating form in sparring, dropping two opponents and sending another to the hospital with a broken nose. And Lee Juyeong is determined to redeem his last start points defeat :

"I learn from my mistakes.
I will knock out Moabi Ngaka - he is great, but he will learn also, that this fight is very different to what he gets at home."

VIETNAM VERSUS SOUTH KOREA

Let's GOOOOOOOO !!!!!

NGUYỄN PHI KHOA PUMPED FOR HOIANA DEBUT
HCMC boxer Nguyễn Phi Khoa is one of three Vietnamese boxers that will head to Danang for the "Legendary" International boxing event early next month.
Khoa will face off with South Korea's 🇰🇷 Jung Jaewook - and the two combatants have been given the honor of kicking off the show as the first fight.
Nguyễn Phi Khoa may possibly be the least experienced fighter on the card, but he lacks nothing in confidence or grunt. He is also trained by the best :

"Nguyen Phi Khoa – this is the battle hungry debutant fighter out of HCMC Vietnam – and there is plenty of talk to say this boy will be very good. And you should believe the whispers, because Khoa is mentored by none other than Vietnam’s most recognized pro boxer – the world rated Tran Van Thao.
Despite his inexperience, this strong bodied student has been described as a KILLER, so expect him to produce a very physical performance against his more vaunted opponent in this Hoiana bout. They say where there is a will, there is a way, and Team Khoa will do everything in their powers to gain a Vietnam victory in this exciting opening bout."

Enough said !! Vietnam 🇻🇳 is here to do the business !!!

DAVAO "MACHINE GUN" SET FOR VIETNAM

Top Davao prospect Dennis Endar is one of two pinoy selected for a huge international event to be held in Vietnam next month. Endar will join another Mindanao boxer Jerry Francisco, who will appear in the main event and contest the WBO Global title.
Dennis "Machine Gun" Endar will face China’s 🇨🇳 top rated Flyweight Hu Longyi over 6 rounds, in a bout that many consider maybe the fight of the night. And with good reason !

"Dennis Endar exciting Southpaw prospect hailing from Davao – a hotbed of boxing talent in Southern Philippines.
23 year old Dennis Endar was responsible for one of the biggest wins of 2023 when he stopped the previously unbeaten Antonio Uy. This was simply an amazing performance where he dropped Uy no less than 3 times – a feat that had previously seemed impossible against his much hyped opponent.
Endar has been rewarded for that big victory with inclusion at Hoiana, and this will be the Philippines’ boxer’s much anticipated first test on foreign soil. But be careful of what you wish for ! His opponent Hu Longyi of China represents another step up, and will surely provide a stern test of where this talented striker sits in the world scene right now."

Dennis Endar will fight at the Hoiana Resort and Casino on Saturday night August 3rd.

HANEY’S WOES GO FROM BAD TO WORSE
June 22, 2024

HANEY’S WOES GO FROM BAD TO WORSE

In the old days, boxers copped their licks, picked themselves up, and moved on.
Fast forward to 2024 .......

For a guy that they mockingly referred to as an instagrammer with nothing but a left hook - Team Haney are certainly taking their beat down at the hands of Ryan Garcia quite badly !

"The Dream" salesmen have now announced plans to sue Ryan Garcia - a man who did nothing more than expose Haney as a useful but lower tier performer.
The loss was so lopsided that many doubt Haney will be the same ever again.
In fact, the light punching prospect has even admitted that he is mentally damaged by the beating he suffered at the hands of his "social media" opponent :

" So, it [the loss] affected me.
My lawyers and my team will do that in court against Ryan Garcia, and we will take legal action because it has affected me.
Not only financially but mentally. ”

But the legal representation for Ryan Garcia have had enough of the excuse making and babbling from the over rated Haney, and have returned serve with an emphatic statement of their own :

Ryan Garcia’s team have just issued a fresh statement where they mentioned that “one thing remains clear - Ryan Garcia beat Devin Haney, and this result will never be erased from the public.”

Statement:
“There is a lot of misinformation being disseminated about Ryan Garcia.
However, the undisputed facts are as follows: his positive test was the result of contaminated supplements, of which he was unaware; the subsequent lab testing of the supplements proved to be in the billions of a gram; and, the two positive tests were in the billions and trillions, that every expert will attest to had absolutely no performance benefit. (Emphasis added)

“Regarding the weight issue, the Haney's could have chose to stop the fight, due to the weight clause, but instead, negotiated heavily and agreed to the "cash grab" and the fight.

“There was never an intent by Ryan, and the facts reiterate this, to gain an advantage over Haney. To be clear, Ryan Garcia's sole advantage over Devin Haney was that he is simply a superior fighter.

“Rest assured, there are multiple agendas that have been at play since Ryan's clear and convincing win against Haney, and all those agendas have been aimed against King Ryan.
No matter what those agendas are, one thing remains clear - Ryan Garcia beat Devin Haney, and this result will never be erased from the public and media.”

BEACH PARTY IN MASBATE

BEACH PARTY IN MASBATE

Some great fights are coming this Saturday from the idyllic Matayum lagoon in Cataingan, Masbate.
Local boy Jeo Santisima stars in the main event against Thailand's Arnon Yupang for the WBC Asia Continental belt.
Esneth Domingo 19-2 takes on Enrique Magsalin for the WBC Asia Flyweight belt, while Ben Ligas and Alvin Camique are going to war in search of their first WBF Title.
But the fight of the day is surely the showdown between Michael Dasmarinas and the Wolverine JonJon Estrada for the vacant RP National title. Hot'n Spicy Dasmarinas has been one of the Philippines' blue riband performers in recent years, and Estrada has notoriously been one of it's most violently effective !

The action for what promises to be a great card begins at 1pm, and is brought to you by ATK Promotions.
"I'M PRETTY BOY FLOYD REINCARNATED !"
June 18, 2024

"I'M PRETTY BOY FLOYD REINCARNATED !"

"Do the research look at similarities in style and career." - Devin Haney

Devin and Bill Haney were only recently beating their drum to claim boxing's pound for pound status, yet shares in the "Chasing Greatness" team have dropped dramatically in recent times.

The marketing pitch of Team Haney started to look a little dubious after he was manhandled by a much smaller Vasyl Lomachenko, yet many were willing to give him a "pass" due to his credible performance against a technically superior and more experienced opponent.
To be fair, it was a very good fight, and one that his supporters were hoping would leverage to greater performances.
But there were obvious cracks, and they were beginning to show.

At times, Devin Haney appeared completely out of ideas - almost forlorn, against Loma.
Father Bill was disturbingly quiet, and offered precious little in terms of technical solution when Haney was being run ragged by Lomachenko. It was this lack of corner direction that would haunt Haney once more when he later faced Ryan Garcia.

Cynicism was enveloping Team Haney - "weight bully" "pillow fists" "glass jaw" - coined generic terms for sure, but certainly not ones to be associated with a P4P self proclaimed !
And the derision was becoming his constant traveling companion.

But Haney had a golden opportunity to put all that negative propaganda to bed.
The plan was simple.
Fight and defeat a very talented yet flawed boxer named Ryan Garcia - the guy is a flat footed instagrammer, with nothing but a left hook after all.
Easy work surely !
WRONG !!

Team Haney’s "Dream" turned into their worst nightmare fully realised.
Weight bully, glass jaw and pillow fists were there for all to see - it was like that harrowing moment that you experienced as a kid when you found out that Santa wasn't real !

Okay - so the Team Haney hoax is now over.
I think everyone fully accepts that.
The guy has no chin, no weapons, but hey - he is still a helluva talent, and even if just a measuring stick, he's still a guy worth watching isn't he ?

After Tank's epic win on Saturday night, Devin Haney was quick to tweet "Ready to get back n the mix".

There is no doubt he has lots of options.
Eddie Hearn said he fears for Haney against a puncher like Subriel Matias, but after his loss on the weekend, maybe he is now in calculations.
If not, who then ?

Who from this list does the P4P candidate beat ? :
Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, Pitbull Cruz, Liam Paro, Richardson Hitchins and just for the heck of it - Gervonta Davis and Shakur.
Word is, the Aussie Paro maybe his next big assignment.

Perhaps none - but now that "the Dream" has now been debunked, there are many that will be cheering for this talented kid to get back off the canvas and regain lost credibility.

TANK SHOULD BRING AN ASS WHOOPIN' BUT
June 18, 2024

TANK SHOULD BRING AN ASS WHOOPIN' BUT

this one might just go down very different to the script ?

On paper - Frank Martin has the requisite unblemished record, and he shapes as a worthy opponent for arguably the most "watchable" boxer on the world scene right now - Gervonta "Tank" Davis.
Tank - the Mayweather prodigy, as technical as he is lethal, equal parts endearing yet formidable, his impish form even had the hairs on the back of Bernard Hopkins' neck stand at full attention.

So theoretically, this is a nice fight in the offing.

Yet a closer look at Martin's resume yields
"Hang on a minute !
Look at some of the wooden indians and crash test dummies this guy has beat."
Upon detailed inspection, it seems obvious that Martin has been defeating guys not out of place at a Lord of the Rings casting call.
And now he gets to fight Gervonta Davis for a world title ?????
How the hell does that work ?

THIS IS PRO BOXING AT IT'S WORST !!!
Or is it ???

Why do we get that nagging feeling that this is indeed a fight, and more, that Tank might even be in deep here ?
Is this the fight where Davis gets a litte over confident, a little sloppy, or is it more ?
Despite the weak opponents on his resume, Frank "the Ghost" Martin really does look the part !
He looks to be incredible shape this week in Vegas, and it hasn't gone unnoticed.

When asked why he’s so confident that he’ll be able to beat Davis this weekend, Martin gave this response.
“‘Cause I’m different. I got some things: I got speed, I got power, I got IQ. I feel like I got it all. Ya’ll gonna see. When it’s time to bite down, the world gonna see.
“We got this fight Saturday and I’m going to whoop his ass...we got Saturday to show who’s who.”

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe we "do got a fight" this Saturday night !"

WHAT IS A STANDARD PROFESSIONAL BOXING RING?
June 15, 2024

WHAT IS A STANDARD PROFESSIONAL BOXING RING?

Professional boxing must be done in an approved sized boxing ring. It can be between 4.9m (16ft) to 7.3m(24ft) from one corner to adjacent corner. The ring must be 1m (3.2ft) in height. This is importan as it provides standard viewing angle of the judges. Tension of the ropes must be equal and aligned vertically. 4 ropes separated by 30cm in vertical distance. It is the role of the inspector to ensure that the competition arena meets both the technical and safety requirements before the contest. At VBO we look for 3 main areas.
1. Ring surface must be even, not slippery, and without debris.
2. Ropes must not pose any cut risk to boxers.
3. Dimension of the ring, and the tension of the ropes must be within specifications.

BRONER LOOKS TO RESURRECT AGAINST COBBS

The Adrien Broner vs Blair Cobbs final press conference was even more wild than expected: "My n***as got guns with them. All I've gotta do is point and they're gonna blow."
It was hard to interpret Broner's rant.
Many saw that as a thinly veiled sexual reference from the gum chewing former prodigy, who has battled with compulsive disorder issues - even to the point of dry humping opponents during championship bouts
That aside, he tore off his shirt to show that Homer Simpson also comes in chocolate.
All that aside, the salient question remains "do I still got it ?"
Blair "the Flair" Cobbs shapes as a credible enough opponent, with only one loss on his resume.
The tall southpaw steps out for the first time since beating Maurice Hooker by UD back in 2022, but he has enough gravitas to help us guage whther there is a path ahead for the enigmatic Adrien Broner.
The two entertaining boxers will battle for their future at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood Florida this Friday night.
Friendly advice to Blair the Flair : Do not turn your back on Broner, he'd hump a table leg given half a chance.

The Hanoi Hitman is looking to make up for lost time, and will be back in the ring in Russia this coming July.
The beautiful Baltic city of Saint Petersburg will provide the backdrop to a compelling match up with outstanding Uzbekistan boxer Khurshidbek Rasuljonov (7-0 3KO)
23 year old Rasuljonov is a 3x national champ, a 2x Asian champ, and maintains a flawless professional record.
The bout will be a contested over 8 rounds, and represents another great opportunity for Nguyễn Văn Hải to make his mark abroad.
The Hanoi boxer has no opportunity to shine in his home country of Vietnam unfortunately, where professional boxing appears to be in freefall right now.
HOW MANY CHAMPIONS TITLES AVAILABLE IN ASIA?

HOW MANY CHAMPIONS TITLES AVAILABLE IN ASIA?

HOW MANY CHAMPIONS TITLES AVAILABLE IN ASIA?

Did you know that there are over 50 global sanctioning organizations that offer various champion titles in the world? They are mostly private organizations that market their brand(s). However the four most recognized ones are : WBO, WBC, WBA, IBF.

Each of the above four organizations offer different regional championship titles and there are a lot of them! Here are some regional titles that may be available for qualified boxers in the Asia Pacific region.

Note that considering that there are at least 17 weight divisions, there will be a minimum of 17 champions for each regional belt. If you add them all up, there are over 391 championship titles just for men alone. If you include all possible female champions, at least 690 championship titles are available.

IBF (International Boxing Federations)
1. IBF ASIA (male)
2. IBF ASIA OCEANIA (male)
3. IBF ASIA AUSTRALASIAN (male)
4. IBF INTERNATIONAL (male/female)
5. IBF INTERCONTINENTAL (male/female)
6. IBF YOUTH (male)

WBA (World Boxing Association)
1. WBA ASIA EAST (male)
2. WBA ASIA SOUTH (male)
3. WBA ASIA (male/female)
4. WBA OCEANIA (male)
5. WBA INTERNATIONAL (male/female)
6. WBA INTERCONTINENTAL (male/female)

WBC (World Boxing Council)
1. WBC FAR EAST (male)
2. WBC ASIAN SILVER (male)
3. WBC ASIAN (male/female)
4. WBC ASIAN CONTINENTAL (male)
5. WBC YOUTH INTERCONTINENTAL (male)

WBO (World Boxing Organization)
1. WBO ORIENTAL (male)
2. WBO ASIA PACIFIC (male/female)
3. WBO GLOBAL (male)
4. WBO INTERNATIONAL (male)
5. WBO ASIA PACIFIC YOUTH (male)
6. WBO INTERCONTINENTAL (male)

So which should you go for? What is available for the boxer is almost entirely dependent on the promoter and their preference in working with the sanctioning organizations. Do you have a preference?

DEVIN HANEY- WAS IT ALL JUST A DREAM ?
May 28, 2024

DEVIN HANEY- WAS IT ALL JUST A DREAM ?

A hotly disputed "win" against Lomachenko showed the cracks.
But his first foray against a similar sized, yet supposedly way lesser boxer, ended in total disaster - and confirmed what many had suspected.
Haney : No weapons - No chin.
The cloak of invincibility has well and truly been lifted on Devin Haney - who has campaigned with the appropriate ring monicker - The Dream.

Devin Haney - the over rated champ nobody wants to see again ?
*story courtesy of Boxing News 24

Devin Haney has captured world titles in two weight classes by age 25, but few fans are impressed with what he’s accomplished during his nine-year career.
Haney stepped up for the first time last month against Ryan Garcia on April 20th, and he was out of his league. He was dropped six times and lost a 12-round decision. Fans were left wondering what they had ever seen in Haney. His reputation has nosedived since, and it’s difficult for fans to view him still as a world champion. The WBC allowed Haney to keep his light welterweight title despite losing.
That performance had a devasting effect on Haney’s career, resulting in fans no longer viewing him as the #1 fighter in the 140-lb division and feeling that they’d been wrong about their previously high appraisal of him after his win against Regis Prograis last December. Before Haney’s loss to Ryan, some fans thought he’d beaten the best fighter in the weight class when he defeated the 35-year-old Prograis. I didn’t feel that way.

Watching Prograis lose to Josh Taylor in 2019 showed that he was flawed from the start. That fight showed all I needed to know about Prograis because Tyalor was always an average fighter. That’s Why Nobody Wants The Rematch Fans should want to see a rematch, but they don’t have faith in Haney that he can raise his game enough to avenge his loss to Ryan (25-1, 20 KOs).
The fans saw all they needed to, watching Ryan put Haney in trouble in the opening seconds of round one and continuing to batter him for the remainder of the fight. In the seventh, Haney was knocked down four times and seemingly saved by the referee, Harvey Dock, who inexplicably penalized Ryan for hitting on the break after he grew frustrated at the nonstop holding that was being done.
Devin was trying to stall out the round after the first knockdown, and Ryan got fed up with being held excessively and instinctively hit Haney when the referee peeled him off. No warning had been given to Ryan before the penalization.

Many fans consider Haney the weakest of the four champions at 140 because of his questionable chin and his fighting style, which involves a lot of clinching, jabbing, and moving around the ring. The other champions at 140 :
- Teofimo Lopez
– Subriel Matias
– Isaac Cruz
Haney would lose to all those champions and likely get knocked out if he couldn’t clinch excessively once he was hurt, as we saw in his fight with Ryan.
GOOSEN SUPPORTS RYAN GARCIA BEING CLEAN

GOOSEN SUPPORTS RYAN GARCIA BEING CLEAN

Acclaimed boxing trainer Joe Goosen shares his thoughts on the recent Ryan Garcia controversy.
He also makes the interesting assertion that the talented fighter is one of the best he has ever trained !
*story courtesy Boxing Scene :

There is no bad blood between former fighter-trainer tandem Ryan Garcia and Hall of Fame coach Joe Goossen.

Garcia split from Goossen after three fights last year following his knockout loss to Gervonta Davis and has since linked up with Derrick James.

On April 20, the heavy underdog Garcia knocked down Devin Haney three times to win a majority decision. But the victory has been surrounded by controversy.

Garcia blew weight for the 140-pound fight by 3.2 pounds, and on May 1, tests revealed that Garcia tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing substance Ostarine on the day of and the day before the fight.

Haney has since requested that the New York State Athletic Commission disqualify Garcia.

Garcia has maintained his innocence as he awaits the results of his B-sample, and his former coach, Goossen, is backing him, too.

“I’ve known Ryan ever since he was a teenager, and I have nothing but great things to say about him because he has a great heart,” Goossen told BoxingScene. “He’s one of the best fighters I’ve ever trained. He’s got so much talent that it’s not even funny. He’s got everything.

“I trained Ryan for two years straight and never saw anything remotely close to the same galaxy of what is being talked about now. It wasn't even talked about. Ryan would never knowingly do something like that. When he trained with me, he was dedicated. He always worked hard. Nothing about Ryan would lead me even to speculate anything in that direction. No way. Something isn't right. I can not point the finger at Ryan. None of it makes sense to me. In my wildest dreams, I cannot conceive of Ryan Garcia purposely doing anything that would endanger his career in such a way.”

Goossen guided Garcia to wins against Emmanuel Tagoe and Javier Fortuna, but Garcia couldn’t overcome the southpaw Davis.

Goossen envisions a promising future for Garcia once he gets back into fight mode.

“Ryan will never lose to a right-hander,” said Goossen. “He's going to be great at 147 pounds because he won't have to kill himself to make weight. He's tall and has a big frame. It's amazing and almost frightening to see him hit bags and hit people. He's one of the fastest, smartest, hardest hitters per square inch I have ever dealt with, and that's saying something.”

Mexican 🇲🇽 Kenbun Torres departs the Philippines today, and bumps into last night's opponent at Ninoy Aquino - champion Reymart Gaballo.

"I spotted my opponent walking alone through the airport
It's Reymart Gaballo !
I was full of nerves and aggression when we are together at the weigh-in - that is a fighter.
But I couldn't help but shout out to the brave man who gave me an opportunity, and swapped punches in the same ring.
I don't know the words to express my appreciation but I shook hands and hugged.
Maybe someday we can fight again, I know Reymart is a great fighter for the Philippines.
I want to pay respect from the bottom of my heart to Reymart Gaballo and the people that were so kind to me when I visited this special place.
Thank you. "

DOHENY STOPS BRYL BAYOGOS IN 4TH

DOHENY STOPS BRYL BAYOGOS IN 4TH

In the curtain raiser of the Inoue-Nery gigantic promotion at Tokyo Dome, former IBF junior feather champ TJ Doheny (26-4, 20 KOs), 121.75, decked an easy TKO victory over previously unbeaten Filipino Bryl Bayogos (7-1-1, 2 KOs), 121.5, at 2:51 of the fourth round in a scheduled eight on Monday.
Doheny quickly caught the still nervous and stiff Filipino and dropped him with solid body shots twice in the third, and followed up so furiously that the referee called a well-timed halt in round four, when Bayogos fell down again.
Doheny scored his fourth triumph in as many bouts in Japan since he dethroned then IBF ruler Ryosuke Iwasa on points in 2018.
The Irishman TJ, now residing in Australia for years, is gunning for a shot at “Monster” Naoya Inoue. Doheny had been supposed to fight Inoue should Luis Nery become unavailable by any inconvenience, but it eventually didn’t materialize with Nery successfully having made weight.

Why Olympic Boxers Aren’t Wearing Headgear Anymore

Why Olympic Boxers Aren’t Wearing Headgear Anymore

SOMETHING IS MISSING from Olympics boxing this year. Did you notice? It’s lot easier to see the faces of male boxers---taunting, grimacing, or smiling in all their Olympian glory. This year, the Olympics ditched boxing headgear for the first time since 1984, making it look a lot more like professional boxing.

The decision, according to statements from amateur boxing’s governing organization---the International Boxing Association, or AIBA---came down to safety. Counterintuitively, referees had to stop matches for head injuries (aka likely concussions) more often when boxers were wearing headgear, according to an AIBA study. But whether ditching headgear actually makes boxers safer---especially from non-concussion injuries---is, well, more complicated.

“This rule change was rather surprising for lot of people. There’s still lot of research that needs to be done,” says Cynthia Bir, a University of Southern California biomechanics researcher who has evaluated boxing equipment for USA Boxing. In fact, female Olympians will still be wearing headgear in boxing, due to lack of safety data. (AIBA did not respond to requests for comment.)

What almost everyone can agree on is that foam padding does little to protect against concussions and knockout blows. Punch hard enough, and you overwhelm the foam’s ability to absorb energy. “The headgear becomes less useful and then not useful,” says Blaine Hoshizaki, a head injury researcher at the University of Ottawa.

Plus, the headgear still leaves boxers vulnerable to punches to the jaw, which are most likely to cause concussions because they whip the head around. “Boxers know that to get the knockout, you need to make the head spin,” says Bir. “Jabs aren’t going to do much.” Your brain normally sits suspended in fluid; when your head whips around, the brain whips around too, the tissue stretching and compressing. This causes concussions.

But why would wearing headgear increase the rate of likely concussions? The AIBA’s study has a few theories: Headgear makes it tougher to see, so boxers can’t dodge as well. Or perhaps headgear creates a false sense of safety and boxers take more risks. It also makes the boxer’s head a bigger target.

Another matter to consider though: Concussions aren’t the only head injuries boxers get. “A lot of the long-term consequences of repetitive head trauma may be from many, many subconcussive blows over time,” says Charles Bernick, a neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Bernick has been following a group of professional boxers and MMA fighters since 2011, and he’s found that even the brains of fighters who have not reported concussions exhibit damage visible in MRI scans.

These subconcussive blows, which don’t have any immediately obvious symptoms, could also lead to chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, over time. “With concussions, you can see it and you can diagnose it,” says Hoshizaki. “The challenge is the ones you don’t see, don’t feel. This is I think the scary part.” Headgear could mitigate some of these blows. But it’s hard to study because it’s hard to measure how much brain damage these subconcussive blows actually cause; the same punch might cause damage in one person but not another because of the structure of their head or neck musculature.

The AIBA has tried to get more professional in recent years---the extra “A” in the acronym is a remnant from when it had “amateur” in its name. And the group made other changes for the Olympics this year: It changed the scoring system to bring it in line with the pro boxing and allowed professionals to qualify for the games. (Though only three are competing in Rio.) Pros have a good reason to not use headgear
TOP 5 COUNTRIES WITH THE MOST PRO BOXING EVENTS.

TOP 5 COUNTRIES WITH THE MOST PRO BOXING EVENTS.

According to Boxrec, there were 7,191 boxing events (63,573 bouts) in the past 12 months worldwide. USA 1,598 boxing events accounting for 27% of the total. That is more than the sum of the next 4 countries combined.

Boxing events are not necessarily connected to the wealth of a nation. Argentina, Mexico, and Russia are not known for their economic strength yet hosted 676, 488, and 294 events respectively in the last 12 months.

In comparison, Vietnam hosted 12 events in the same period. With over 100 million in population and one of the largest amateur boxer population, VBO estimates that Vietnam should be hosting approximately 100~200 events per year. That is roughly 15 events per month.

The question should be focused around how to make it easier for people to host boxing events, starting with 4 rounds of boxing focused on debuting boxers who are beginners in professional boxing. Safety of boxers are very important but often that concept is misused to scare noninformed public.

Most injuries that boxers sustain are from three main areas:
1. Not enough rest between fights.
2. Excessive weight reduction before the fight.
3. Previous injuries that are left unattended.

While mismatch can be a big problem, this is the fault of the referee/supervisor for not stopping the fight when needed. Unfortunately, this is one skill that can not be learned in a classroom but through experience. This is why developing high quality boxing ring officials is so important and difficult to do. No amount of training or certificates can replace actual experience in the ring. Just like boxers, officials also need consistent events to practice and sharpen their skills.

What are your thoughts to make 15 events/month a reality in Vietnam?
