Outstanding prospect Tomjune Mangubat is primed to give a career best performance on March 12th , when he headlines in Paranaque, Manila at “TIGER 2022”. Mangubat will be fighting for the WBA Asia bragging rights, and the opposition surely doesn’t get any bigger than boxing royalty himself, the “King’s Warror” Charly Suarez. The Cebu based boxer known as “War Dog” heads to Manila armed with not only an intimidating career resume, but a purple patch of recent and devastating victories.
Tomjune Mangubat grew up in the mountains of Bukidnon, Mindanao - a place that has proven to be an assembly line for producing top fighters. Mangubat was top echelon from the start, winning local and national titles before turning pro at the age of 18. And it was no surprise that he would transition seamlessly to the pro ranks. This kid was big and rangy, had plenty of grit, and was rapidly refining his amateur skills to become a hurtful puncher. War Dog quickly earned a reputation as both technical and dangerous, winning 9 of his first 10 fights with thunderous knockouts. The signs were there from the start that the Omega Boxing Gym prodigy was something special. Significantly, he has showed the ominous signs of bigger things to come, and with every match, he has shown constant improvements in all facets of his performance.
Late in 2019, we were given a valuable insight into the mettle of the rapidly improving Mangubat when he suffered a split decision loss to Korea’s #1 fighter Jong Seon Kang.
The match was quality from the opening bell, underscored by a massive work rate and constant power punching by both fighters. Whilst many consider that Mangubat was “very unlucky” not to get the decision, it is worth noting that his Korean opponent was the very same that recently knocked out top class pinoy Pete Apolinar. War Dog was most definitely the dominant fighter in this epic clash, but rather than dwell on the unfortunate scoring, he has simply gone from strength to strength!
Tomjune Mangubat shapes as another significant road block to Charly Suarez’s world title aspirations. His four wins in 2021 foreshadow the destructive form that he will bring to Manila this March. All four were top opponents, yet all received one sided beat downs - three resulting in brutal knockouts. Only the rugged Ernie Sanchez survived on his feet, but it is fair to say that he was comprehensively bashed in an unanimous win for the War Dog.
Mangubat’s most recent performance, significantly, was also his best thus far. The match was held in October last year, against the highly promising and unbeaten Allan Villanueva. This was a keenly anticipated clash in Cebu, as Villanueva had rightful claims to victory, sporting 11 and 0 (8 KO) credentials. But Mangubat was just brutal from the start, mixing technical prowess with hard core physicality. The Bukidnon boy controlled range from the opening bell, setting the tempo going forward, and also on the back foot. He really befuddled Villanueva with wis variety of high and low punches, but it was his quality body punching that really dismantled his opponent, and the match finished with another clinical stoppage for the War Dog.
In what is without doubt the biggest local derby match of the year, you have the Philippines’ best boxer Charly Suarez, taking on perhaps the Philippines’ most dangerous , young and improving fighter in Tomjune Mangubat.
FORMER Olympian Charly Suarez returns to the ring on Aug. 7 to defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight belt against what should be one of his toughest opponent to date, veteran Marjohn Yap, in the main event of UKC Tiger - “Annihilation” at the Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque City.
The 33-year-old Suarez hopes to get a world ranking and an impressive win over an experienced former regional champion like Yap could boost him up the super-featherweight ladder.
Suarez started the year 2022 with a 12th-round technical knockout of prospect Tomjune Mangubat to win the vacant WBA Asia super-featherweight strap in Parañaque City last March. He followed it up with a unanimous decision win over tough Junny Salogaol last June 10 in Bohol.
Yap, on the other hand, is on a three-fight slump, fighting in the US and Dubai.
The 33-year-old Yap lost to one-time world title challenger Angelo Leo, undefeated American up-and-comer Angel Alejandro and unbeaten Cuban prospect Jadier Herrera.
Before his short campaign in the US, Yap had an impressive seven-year stint in Japan, where he won the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight belt and went 12-5. He won against the likes of former interim WBA minimumweight champion Juan Jose Landaeta and three-time world title challenger Hiroyuki Kudaka.
Suarez is 11-0 with seven knockouts, while Yap is 30-16 with 15 knockouts.
Also featured in the same card are two World Boxing Foundation (WBF) regional bouts.
Clyde Azarcon (17-4-1, 6 KOs) fights against battle-scarred veteran Lito Dante (18-11-4, 10 KOs) for the vacant WBF International minimumweight strap, while Allan Villanueva (11-2, 8 KOs) slugs it out with Al Toyogon (12-6-1, 8 KOs) for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific lightweight belt.
Also booked in the undercard is Vietnamese Van Hai Nguyen (2-0, 1 KO) taking on fellow unbeaten prospect Jerald Into (4-0, 4 KOs).

Suarez is coming off the biggest win of his career after stopping young prospect Tomjune Mangubat to win the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia super featherweight belt last March 12 in Paranaque City.
The 33-year-old Suarez is preparing for a title defense in August against a foreign opponent.
Salogaol, in the meantime, is a very experienced fighter that has elite opposition, the likes of Hiroaki Teshigawara and Joe Noynay.
He’s dropped his last four contests and is coming off a split decision loss against former regional champion Jessie Cris Rosales.
Suarez is 10-0 with seven knockouts, while Salogaol is 14-19-5 with 13 knockouts.
Virgel Vitor faces Jecker Buhawe in a six-round co-main event.
Vitor won three straight fights since losing to veteran Mark Anthony Geraldo. He’s coming off a unanimous decision win over Lorence Rosas last December.
Buhawe, on the other hand, is on a six-fight slump and is fresh from a second round knockout in the hands of Jun Blazo last April.
Vitor is 16-2 with nine knockouts, while Buhawe is 16-16-1 with 10 knockouts.

Tomjune Mangubat was physically imposing, and perhaps won the first two rounds of tonight's bout.
But Suarez hands and feet were so quick, and accuracy so good, he constantly picked off an advancing Mangubat. In the end, a fatigued Mangubat was dropped in the final round, and the ref waved it off.
Suarez showed that he is far and away the best fighter in the country, and big credit to Mangubat, he was outstanding.

TOMJUNE Mangubat looks to score a huge upset today, March 12, as he faces highly touted former Olympian Charly Suarez in a World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight title fight in the main event of “Ultimate Knockout Challenge: Tiger 2022” at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City, Metro Manila.
The 24-year-old Mangubat is coming in as an underdog against Suarez, who has been impressive in his career as a pro.
Mangubat, however, hopes to derail the Suarez hype train and hand him his first career defeat.
“That’s what we want for him to go toe-to-toe. We believe he’ll run. They will have a bigger chance of winning if it goes the distance because it’s their promotion,” Mangubat’s coach Julius Erving “Jinggoy” Junco told SunStar Cebu. “If possible (we’ll knock him out). We could also win all the rounds and show the judges that we’re in control.”
Mangubat tipped the scales at 129 pounds, while the 33-year-old Suarez weighed-in a pound lighter at 128 pounds.
The winner of the fight could break into the WBA super featherweight rankings and step closer at a world title shot.
Mangubat is 15-2-1 with 12 knockouts, while Suarez is 9-0 with six knockouts.

The Philippines' most esteemed amateur Charly Suarez was well known for winning multiple Asian and SEA games gold medals, even representing his country at the RIo 2016 Olympics.

Suarez had an outstanding 2021, winning five on end against top opponents, culminating in a December victory against hot unbeaten prospect Delmar Pellio. He returned home to his native Davao for the holidays, spending precious time with friends and family.
Now Suarez is back!
With the recent confirmation of a WBA Asia title, and a killer opponent in the shape of Tomjune Mangubat, the King's Warrior was quickly back into "all business" mode! Suarez will resume training in Manila later this week, under the expert guidance of former national team fighter Delfin Boholst. The WBA title fight Suarez v Mangubat is scheduled for Paranaque, Manila on Saturday March 5th.
This just got made, and WBA approved only minutes ago!
Roldan Aldea is sidelined with injury, and champion Omega Cebu fighter Tomjun Mangubat has siezed his opportunity to continue his ominous winning streak. Mangubat is a hot young prospect with not just a great record, but boasting plenty of firepower. The imposing fighter has showed the making of something special, resolving 3 of last 4 impressive wins with scary knockouts.
The WBA were quick to recognise the great potential of Mangubat, and along with a glowing endorsement, were quick to approve the Bukidnon native for the huge WBA Asia battle with Suarez.

Roldan Aldea acquired WBA ASIA Super Featherweight title in Papua New Guinea on April 25, 2021. In considering pandemic situation, WBA ASIA has maintained his champion status despite of over due date with long-term inactivities.
Roldan was supposed to defend his title against Amateur veteran Chalie Suarez on March 5, 2022. However, Roldan got an injury that he could not go ahead for this fight. Through this, WBA ASIA decided to reactivate this division as follow;
Due to Roldan’s injury & long-term inactivities, Roldan Aldea will be classified as “In Recess” status. And, Chalie Suarez team will hold the WBA ASIA Super Featherweight title match against another opponent on March 5 as scheduled. The winner of this fight would try to make a defense match against Roldan Aldea if Roldan recovers from his injury. In this Super Featherweight division, WBA ASIA EAST champion is another Amateur veteran, Mongolian prospect Tsendbaatar Erdenebat. And, WBA ASIA SOUTH title will be held in Dubai on upcoming February by Highland Promotions.

Cagayan de Oro son Mark John Yap dominates before a third round stoppage over Bangladesh boxer Hasan Sikdar.
Elorde boxer Yap was originally scheduled to fight a high level opponent here at The Grand Ho Tram Resort and Casino, but injuries and other fight card changes meant that featherweight Sikdar stepped up at short notice.
Great job by the Bangladesh boxer to survive early, but Yap's relaxed ring control had his rival constantly on the back foot and under a lot of pressure.
Watch for the change of gears in round three when Trainer Jetro Pabustan tells Yap to put the foot down on the accelerator and put an end to it.

to VSP PRO boxing girl Ngo Ngọc Linh Chi who just picked up Gold in the National Youth tournament.
Linh Chi won the 48kg category for 17-18 years, and despite it being a talent laden weight class, she showed some really good skills that complemented her signature high workrate style of boxing.
The Hanoi based fighter showed huge potential with her successful debut at VSP PRO in February, and it appears the sky is the limit for Ngo Ngọc Linh Chi.

It took former national boxing champion Nguyen Van Hai just 12 seconds to take down the on-form Abdul Motalib of Bangladesh at the international boxing event WBO Global Prelude.
Before the lightweight (61 kg) fight on Saturday night, Mottalib was in great form with five consecutive wins, including two victories by knockout. Hai, who has won the national championship for 14 consecutive times, also had five wins in six professional fights.
At the official weigh-in before the fight in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province that borders HCMC, Mottalib tried to provoke Hai by standing in front of him and blocking his view during the press conference. But Hai kept his composure.
There was not much to say about the fight as 12 seconds in, Hai threw a powerful and staggering right hook that immediately floored Motalib. The referee stopped the fight and gave a knockout win to Hai. This is his third knockout win after seven professional fights.
Boxers work very hard, but so too do the gentleman that preside over the regulatory frame that keeps our sport vibrant and our fighters as safe as possible.
A big shout out to these four - Vietnam's Lim Song, the Philippines' Richard Clarin, Japan's Tsuyoshi Yasukochi and South Korea's Aaron Jang - strident men who all share a unified vision of creating more opportunities for athletes in their respective countries.
A notable omission is China's Samson Lu, who flew back early, but has been an invaluable and encouraging mentor to Vietnam boxing.

That was Yap's first hit out since scoring a knockout win in Manila in January, and despite signs of ring rust, all the telltale signs of a very dangerous man were on show.
The Mindanao menace returns to Vietnam next week, and he has mayhem on his mind.

Mark John Yap has proved to be one of the best performed pinoys on the international circuit in recent years, and plans to add to his imposing record on the road in Vietnam this month.
The boxer affectionately dubbed "The Journey Man", and more recently as "Fat Yap", appears on a big show at The Grand Ho Tram Resort and Casino, amongst a strong lineup of fighters from many different countries.
Yap was impressive in winning in Manila in January, then followed up with a three month break to welcome the birth of his first child Yuri. He has slowly worked back into fight shape, and performed in an exhibition bout in Ho Chi Minh City last month.
And it was trademark Yap !
Despite getting off to a slow start, Mark John Yap proved too physical for national youth boxer Nguyễn Hà Minh, dropping him twice in the final round.
Yap will be looking for an emphatic showing on July 15th, before eyeing off bigger matches later this year.

Getting opportunities to fight in international events is never easy, and if you're based in PNG, even more so !
Friends and supporters of Junior Kauko Raka, and believers in the great sport of boxing, assembled last night to celebrate his impending task in Vietnam.
They also all contributed their valuable time, energy and money to make Raka the first professional boxer ever to step foot into the south east asian destination.
Big thanks go to promoter Mr. Sang Bum Kim and friends at Cocky Buffalo for showing the foresight and faith in the PNG Prodigy !

Đây là sự kiện do Cocky Buffalo phối hợp cùng Tổ chức quyền Anh thế giới (WBO) tổ chức tại The Grand Ho Tram Strip. Màn so tài giữa "ốc tiêu" Minh Phát và Zhu thuộc hạng minimumweight (48kg) là một trong những trận thư hùng tâm điểm của sự kiện. Người thắng trận này sẽ lấy suất tranh đai WBO toàn cầu.

Trận đấu hứa hẹn hấp dẫn khi cả hai võ sĩ đều sở hữu chuỗi thành tích ấn tượng. Minh Phát hiện có chín trận thắng, trong đó có bảy bằng knock-out, qua 13 lần thượng đài. Anh được trang BoxRec xếp hạng 1 sao cùng vị trí thứ 73 thế giới ở hạng minimumweight.
Zhu được đánh giá cao hơn nhờ tỷ lệ knock-out ấn tượng. Võ sĩ Trung Quốc thắng tám, trong đó có bảy bằng knock-out, qua chín trận chuyên nghiệp. Anh hiện là võ sĩ số một Trung Quốc ở hạng cân minimumweight.
Trên bảng xếp hạng thế giới, Zhu xếp trên Minh Phát 24 bậc và được trang BoxRec đánh giá ở cấp độ 2 sao. Zhu từng giành đai vô địch WBC châu Á vào năm 2019. Với bảng thành tích ấn tượng, Zhu chắc chắn sẽ là thử thách khó khăn cho tay đấm chủ nhà.

Võ sĩ nổi tiếng khác của Việt Nam là Nguyễn Văn Hải cũng góp mặt tại sự kiện WBO Global Prelude sắp tới ở hạng cân Super Featherweight 58,97 kg. Tay đấm sinh năm 1988, từng bảy lần vô địch quốc gia sẽ so găng Abdul Motalib - đối thủ Bangladesh có biệt danh "Sát thủ Thầm lặng" với chuỗi 5 trận toàn thắng.
WBO Global Prelude còn có một số trận khác hứa hẹn hấp dẫn. Võ sĩ 17 tuổi mang hai dòng máu Việt - Hàn Lee Juyeong sẽ so tài đối thủ Indonesia Dedy Imprax. Võ sĩ Philippines từng đánh gần 50 trận nhà nghề Mark John Yap thượng đài với Mohon Ali (Bangladesh). Và võ sĩ kỳ cựu người Papua New Guinea - Junior Kauko Raka so găng cùng Xiao Tao Su, tay đấm Trung Quốc 26 tuổi đang có 11 chiến thắng, trong đó có sáu bằng knock-out, sau 14 lần thượng đài.
